Every October several tons of acorn nuts are collected from the fields and hills of Kea island in Greece. Watch how we gather, store, shell and process acorns for gluten-free ACORN FLOUR. See volunteers (ranging in age from 20 - 65) helping with all facets of this adventure. There is not much narration in the first half of this clip. This video encourages you to slow down and enjoy being on Kea with us as we harvest giant acorns!

Wonderful. I began researching the gathering and processing of acorns in preparation for this autumn and then I stumbled across your channel. I have much catching up to do! Thanks for sharing your methods. 😊

Great project! Here in California, we have so many different oaks. I'm a leather tanner, and I wish I had access to caps like that here. the best I've found are gold cup oak, aka Canyon Live Oak, Q. chrysolepis For processing as flour, Black Oaks seem to be the most popular with native people where it grows. Do you use other oaks there, or just the Valonia. We have one common mediterranean oak here, Q. Ilex. People plant it as a landscape tree a lot. There are also a few cork oaks.

Hey Marcie, it's great to see your acorn process. Do you still have people out to volunteer for the acorn harvest? I'd be interested. Thanks for any info.

Do you have any advice for the care of very young saplings of these trees? I’m in Sifnos and got my hands on a few 3-month old seedlings

What is that big blue machine you use for shelling? It looks like a wood chipper. We are working on a similar project here in California and are trying to find the right machinery to use.
