Thank you. Recently I've been using "&" quite frequently instead of spelling "and". IMO it's a small time saver.

⁊ is still occasionally used in Ireland so ⁊ didn’t exactly fall out of use

Yes, the american style of english is just german pig latin, & Don't get me started on ebonics!!
