Honestly, when they locked him to that formation, he was dead alreaddy, you make move forward... The person behind you attacks. You go for strike to the side, the front person attacks you. The best chance for him to survive, would be to attack from corner, and not allow himself to be forced for melee combat.

I always wondered why he didn't just light up his jetpack and fly out of there but now I can see where it was damaged during fight. You can clearly see the sparks coming from it at 00:55.
