Fake Agile, it's everywhere! I've seen soooo much of it over the last 10 years.

Whether that’s people trying to make Scrum work, using Kanban, extreme programming or just trying to follow the Agile Manifesto.

When I say fake I mean they’re just turning the wheel, doing the same old things, waterfall, but using different terminology typically associated with Agile such as sprints, inspect and adapt, retrospectives and the all rest but essentially doing the same old thing.

So many organisations use Scrum - so badly - and think they are Agile. Scrum is NOT Agile on it's own, it needs the Agile Manifesto and eXtreme Programming to work - but you don't need Scrum at all to be Agile. Scrum is broken - but that’s ok, you can fix it!

Lots of insights. Thanks. I am currently in a project where SAFe is being used and many of the issues really stem from among others; that the employees think that "we use SAFe, hence we are agile" while in reality it is scrum in waterfall..

Great video! Now i know why it never felt good on those projects (and why i was right😁).
Scrum without Agile does have benefits to waterfall if done in multi disciplinary teams. Team decides sprint backlog, not a spreadsheet from PL. Scrum is an easy to implement structure for multiple teams. If the PO is from the client/business, then scope is explicitely for the client/business. Waterfall makes scope a ping pong game.
Team members in scrum have more sense of belonging to a team then with waterfall.
In Scrum without Agile the ceremony meetings do foster shared and mutual understanding, also collaboration and feedback loops. But i wonder if you agree!

An organization that still does BIG upfront requirements and exacting UX design and throws it over the wall with "do this" orders will never be agile just because they have bi-weekly criticism sessions and call them "reviews". Agile (and scrum) CAN be adapted within a more structured framework and not be waterfall - but it's been idiotized into "why aren't they making complex software faster?!"
