Noctua NH-D15 Competition: Deepcool Assassin III & Captain Pro In Detail

Noctua's NH-D15 has long been a high-performing, massive air cooler, but it faces new competition from the Deepcool Assassin III.

Deepcool's showing at CES 2019 deserved a bit more depth than some of our other coverage, so we spoke with the engineers in detail about the material choices for the company's new coolers. The Assassin III aims to compete versus the Noctua NH-D15, while the Captain 240 Pro aims to compete in the CLC market.

GN does such a great job. I ordered a Mod Mat almost a year ago and I mis-typed my email so I didnt get a confirmation email. I contacted Steve personally via his Discord and he responded within minutes and fixed the problem. Thats why I continue to support the GN team through Patreon. Great group, great leader, and great content. Thanks again.

Those "spoilers" on the fan blades should generate vortexes that direct air over the fan blade. They are used on airplanes to prevent stalling during high angles of attack. A stall occurs when airflow over the wing separates from the wing, creating a huge vacuum behind it. In this case, they are using an aggressive angle of attack on the fan blades to accelerate airflow without increasing rpm, so those spoilers should prevent extreme buffeting and allow for much more efficient and continuous air flow.

Wished we'd get an ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny. NH-D15 vs Dark Rock Pro 4 vs Cryorig R1 Ultimate vs Deepcool Assassin III maybe Scythe Ninja 5 and Alpenfohn Brocken, too.

As a NH-D15 owner, that clearance makes me excited. 2 out of the 4 boards it's been on I haven't been able to run a graphics card in the first slot.

ooh... A New Challenger! I mean, I have a Noctua D14 version, I haven't a need to upgrade at all but, because I believe competition is always good, I love to learn more about this new Deepcool Assassin, can't wait for a full review video.

I bought the Scythe Ninja 5 right away after doing a bit of research. It's not only competitive with the NH-D15, but under ideal conditions it can even beat out some aio coolers. At 155mm tall it's also a little shorter than some other large tower coolers, which means it can squeeze inside some cases that the others can't.

Its good to see deepcool pushing forward, they had a bit of bad press a couple years back with some leaky units but I've found their products offer great performance for the price points they are at.

I would definitely love to see a review and comparison of the best CPU air coolers, as well as a review and comparison of the best silence focused fans for PC cases and coolers.

If you got a big case, there always will be the macho X2.
It has become my favourite cooler because it manages to deliver 240W of cooling performance with 2 140mm fixed 800 rpm fans which run extremely quiet.
And that for 50€
