With his approval rating and party polling slipping, Trudeau is facing increasing pressure as his Deputy PM resigns on the same day he loses yet another by-election. So how did we get here? And could we see him step down or call an early election in 2025?

He's a narcissist, hes not resigning. He'd rather sink the ship than admit defeat.

Damn so he really created the problem and promise minor action to fix it to get reelected? Kick him out already

How not to run a country 101. Trudeau shows what happens when you satisfy the non basic needs of the few, while abandoning the basic needs of the majority.

As a Canadian, I can tell you that the principle reason Trudeau is hated so much; and yes, I mean hated, is his attitude. All of the things you mentioned are accurate but it's his smug, dismissive, condescending, self righteous, elitist attitude and demeanor that's the main driver behind it.

Canadian here. It's interesting that I'm getting unbiased Canadian news from a UK channel.

0:52 Losing is an understatement. The riding went from Liberals winning it in 2021 to losing it by 50 points. Fifty. 66% for Conservatives and 16% for Liberals.

Who is here after Trudeau’s resignation announcement🙋‍♂️

As a Canadian, people are also just sick of Trudeau's smug personality and voice.
The Conservative party is doing so well because Canadians are done with Trudeau and he refuses to quit.

He's just like Macron, refuses to admit defeat and clinging into power like a starfish on a rock.

I am a Canadian living in Vancouver. The price of groceries, crime, drug use, homelessness, and even our national identity have all been affected extremely negatively. I've personally had my car broken into twice over the last couple of years. When I filed a police report they treated it like it was nothing, and told me to file an insurance claim and not expect to hear anything back. I've had to tell people smoking drugs, on multiple occasions, right outside my apartment to move out of my way so I could get in (I don't live in a rough area). Police in Vancouver have arrested the same 40 offenders 6, 000 times, showing how soft they are on crime. Trudeau has banned thousands of firearms of law abiding citizens, note we don't have a mass shooting problem like the US does because we have very strong gun laws, while at the same time softening penalties for those caught with illegal firearms. Under his leadership, rent prices have doubled, mortgage payments have double.

Between 2015 and 2022, federal per-person debt has increased by 35.3%, this number is even worse now at the end of 2024. He claims to be a feminist but he has pushed out multiple women from his cabinet if they did not fall in line, one of them the first Indigenous Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and there are many others, the latest being Chrystia Freeland. Our dollar hit the lowest against the US since 1998, and our economy has stagnated since the pandemic, while many other G7 countries have continued to grow.

66% of Canadians want an election now. Trudeau is down 25% in the polls, and if an election were held today, they wouldn't even make it to Official Opposition status, they would be relegated to backbenches.

This is all coming from someone who was center-left at the time he was elected, I want my country to thrive, I don't care about political parties and have in fact voted for all 3 of them in the past. Trudeau is the all dancing fool of Canada. A trust fund baby who is detached from everyday Canadians. An ideologue still stuck in his 2015 progressive dreams of a utopian and self-righteous paradise.

The ego of these politicians is unmatched. Your whole country wants you gone, just resign.

Sean Fraser resigned before Freeland. Trudeau told freeland that she had to deliver the economic update and resign after it, which is obviously ridiculous.

Damn $250??? That's one tank of gas on a mid-sized sedan and groceries for less than a week. Thanks!

(My rent is $2500)

The hilarious part about the 250 rebate check was that it was one of the main reasons Christia Freeland quit. She reversed the promise at the last second, and she called it a political gimmick on her way out

The leader of the NDP won’t get his pension if an election is called early, I wonder why he doesn’t want an election.
