In today's episode of Beauty Beacons I'm recreating the look of one of the best known female Pharaohs, Cleopatra, who may not have looked like what you think she looked like. Enjoy!

I'm so interested by Cleopatra. She spoke several languages, was politically savvy and very intelligent. The controversy over her race is quite annoying as it's pretty well documented that she was Macedonian Greek and was the first member of her family to bother learning Egyptian. Her family saw Egypt as just another conquest, but she delved into the culture. While I think her intellect deserves hype, I think there's other Egyptian Pharohs/Queens that deserve just as much attention, like Nefertiti and Hatshepsut. They were arguably even more influential than Cleopatra, and they were (I believe?) ethnically Egyptian. Anyway, I nominate HEDY LAMARR!

I love how you include bits of history in these videos, so much more than just a tutorial!

i love the egyptian make up with the greek hair!

i heard that people called her stunningly beautiful to attribute her charms and diplomatic skills to superficial beauty rather than her intelligence and wit, since that was easier to accept for the men in power back then.

This was spot on. I just finished reading a book about her and she did wear Egyptian makeup but her hair was very traditional and she only wore the Egyptian “Elizabeth Taylor” look during festivities and big events to identify with the Egyptians. She also wore glitter eyeshadow too!

The Grecian hair style is gorgeous! In the future I would love to see Vivien Leigh, Ava Gardner or Myrna Loy.

I love your re-creation/interpretation of Cleopatra's look ! Just like Teresa, I think most ancient people praised on her beauty because it was more accepted than praising a woman for her intelligence.

Super excited for Pompadour next week ! Among other beauty beacons I would love to see : Hedy Lamarr, Vivien Leigh, Sarah Bernhardt, Zelda Fitzgerald, Marylin Monroe, Madame de Montespan, pretty much anyone from the XIXth century... I hope you're not stopping this serie anytime soon. ;)

You should do Alexandra Feodorovna (or any of the Romanov ladies)

I'm impressed by the research you actually did on this! Not everybody bothers doing it, so it's really nice to see it when it happens!

Many scholars think Cleopatra was likely more charming, alluring, clever and erudite than actually physically beautiful. Who knows, lol. Cannot wait for Marquise de Pompadour. I nominate Ava Gardner, Anne of Austria and maybe Xishi or Zhao Feiyan.

my favourite way to learn history :)

I remember when I was in 10th grade and we're being taught about french revolution and when my teacher mentioned Marie Antoinette I was like ".. I know this chick from a beauty channel" lol

excellent video!I would like to point out that her name actually means "glory of homeland" in greek (most ancient greek names held some kind of meaning )to honor her greek roots

Ik vind het echt geweldig hoe je er keer op keer in slaagt van je kijkers uitgebreide achtergrond informatie mee te geven, en niet enkel de tutorial.
You're awesome!
Groetjes uit Antwerpen :-)

I know I'm really late to the party on these beauty icon videos but they are really cool! This is my favorite one so far.
