Very happy to see two Manipuri MPs in parliament, I'm from U.P and witnessed the clash last year with my own two eyes when I was in Manipur. The thought about this is that leaders of the state which are ground connected to people will only know the right solution of this problem. When I see the parliaments and their members of Europe or other Western countries, and then compare them with our parliamentarians, I notice a world of difference. Those people are such gentlemen; even when they protest, they do it in a very respectful manner. However, here indecency often crosses all limits. The members of our country's parliament should learn from the parliaments of other countries on how to conduct themselves properly, rather than turning it into a vegetable market or street corner with all the shouting and chaos.

Professor Akoijam is sympathetic to the Meitei-Hindu cause. Im glad he has been elected, since our Meitei brothers and sisters desperately needed a leader of his intellectual caliber to articulate their concerns. However it would be interesting to see how he navigates the anti-hindu culture in congress to address Meitei grievances.
