5 dead at Rikers Island in 6 weeks, NYC DOC says

Five inmates have died at the Rikers Island jail complex in the last six weeks, officials say. CBS News New York's Jennifer Bisram has more on the calls for change.

They used to blame the horrid experience of Rikers on the fact that some of the guards “don’t look like us”. Now a few decades of 98% of guards looking like the inmates…and claims of systemic abuse abound. The corrupt bookkeeping of misappropriating taxpayer dollars and paying out 100X for contracted services abounds. But, whether it’s Rikers or the new jails they have been opening all over Brooklyn and the BX, the pathologies persist.
