Is Apollo 18 Real?

Why did Apollo missions to the Moon stop at Apollo 17? Is there any truth to the movie "Apollo 18"? No, but there was an Apollo 18! (Yes, this is an old video I recently edited and reuploaded!)

why does everyone keep hating the movie so much, I am a space geek and I freaking loved it, maybe its not scary enough for some people?

Yeah that's what I thought. I had known about that for some time. On the Apollo 18 film IMDb forum people were going nuts over this. Everyone asking "how do you launch a saturn V rocket with no one noticing?" I was like "guys there was an Apollo 18, it docked with a Soyuz capsule in 1975."

How the hell could you launch a Saturn V rocket without anyone noticing!?!

LM 13 intended for Apollo 18, was restored for the HBO series From the Earth to the Moon, and is on display at the Cradle of Aviation. I live right near the Cradle, its one of my favorite places, so I get the see LM 13 pretty often.

Kudos to Amy, saying "rock spiders" with a straight face.

I imagine one of astronauts would say "Hey! Who turned off the lights?" on that mission.

I was so glad when this mission went on . "Deke" Slayton finally got to fly. As one of the originals he had a medical condition that kept him out of space. Somewhere, someone finally gave the man his due, which he deserved. He was a great embassador for the Apollo/Soyuz mission.

It would be really, really hard to hide a Saturn V launch.

Man am I glad Science Channel shared your video (not this one) on Facebook. Really informative and interesting videos you have there. Definitely subscribing.
Keep em coming!

I *know* the movie is real!
I saw it sitting in the video store!

Well, I really liked the movie. Quite cool that they included a Soviet lunar lander.

The CSM used for the Apollo/Soyuz flight was originally going to fly on Apollo 15, which was supposed to be the last G mission. When 18 + 19 were cancelled Apollo 15 became a longer duration J flight. This meant the G configured CSM no longer had a mission. It was then decided to put the space craft into storage and use it on the ASTP.

I was always confused by the title of that movie. Wasn't Apollo 18 the Apollo part of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project?

The whole rock spider thing did make a pretty exciting story even if it wasn't real.

I'm SO glad somebody finally put that myth to bed! My ex and I saw the movie (I was around for the Apollo missions; she wasn't), and she was convinced that somehow there could've been such a mission. A) Dennis Vance is right... pretty hard to keep something like that a secret--given there's really only TWO places to launch from! B) If you're old enough (like me), you recall first hearing about the cancelled moon missions on the news, and also the initial reference to the Apollo/Soyuz as Apollo 18... the news coverage was ubiquitous.

My grandpa was a Kennedy space center fire fighter for the apollo missions all the way up until 2003 for the shuttle missions. In 1972 he came to work to find them destroying leftovers off what was going to be apollo 18. They were going to throw a lot of gold colored foil that was important for something (has a name but don't remember) to this day he jas a bag of old gold foil in the garage in Florida

Im on the side of the "cost if human lives" being easily enough, if people were willing (which they probably are) to give their lives for science and progress, and if the officials were not worried about culpability, I think humans would be on mars already (possibly dead humans, but still)

Great video. Might also have noted that when Apollo 18 was cancelled, Jack Schmidt was swapped into Apollo 17 replacing Joe Engle since the science lobby wanted to get a geologist to the moon.

I was wondering who the crews were supposed to be for Apollos 18, 19 & 20 and you answered that. Thanks.

This is my favorite space movie, period. Love the conspiracy background and it looks really good in terms of the believability
