Blacksmith Hammer Types

A brief overview of the types of hammers you can successfully use in blacksmithing.

You don't need a cross peen to be a blacksmith.

You can use any hammer that has a decent amount of weight to it; somewhere in the 2-3 pound range.

I've used the same 2.5 pound hammer in my shop since 2011 (you'll see it in the video). It happens to be a cross peen, but this is not necessary.

I also use mini sledges and all different sizes of ball peen hammers regularly.

It's less about the tools and more about the person using the tools.
