This actually means that aliens are likely to be NOT the crabs. If they would be crabs, than they wouldn't need the big brains for survival.

We would have to differentiate between aliens who come to Earth and aliens that don't come to Earth. If aliens could come to Earth then they would need to be able to build star ships. In order to build star ships there are certain physiological characteristics that species would need to posses. So, unless they are telekinetic and can move and manipulate things without having to actually touch them, I would think it reasonable to assume they would have a body structure similar to ours. Even tentacles wouldn't work very well for building star ships. They would need articulate appendages like fingers.

My sister and I are obsessed with this author, Brandon Sanderson. All of the aliens in his books are described as similar to crabs. EVERYTHING'S CRABS !!

I see two possible outcomes for how aliens will appear, either they'll look nearly identical to us being that we've somehow evolved the perfect form, or they'll look wildly different because it turns out there isnt some perfect form for reaching space.
