I first watched "How It Feels to Be Run Over" (1900) about 18 years ago and to this day have never forgotten how much that little film thrilled me. Also to this day, I thought they'd destroyed a priceless camera! I watch this video today and suddenly realize they probably used a mirror back then as well. Fantastic! btw, I came here after Googling Shufftan, while watching/reading about Blackmail (1929).

Eugen Schufftan... now there's a name you don't hear every day! One of the most admirable aspects of the SW lessons is how often they incorporate effects know-how dating back to the early fx pioneers that started it all. Without their groundbreaking work, our present state-of-the-art would be anything but.

In both Black Swan and Inception (another film with a lot of cameras looking straight into mirrors) the trick is to shoot clean plates from adjacent angles and then paint the camera out of the shot digitally, replacing the area where the camera was with a piece of the background from the adjacent plates (slightly different perspective, of course, but impossible to notice if the composite is good.) In short, it takes a little more post-production and computer power.

In Black Swan they have a room full of mirrors with characters and camera moving a around the room. How do they do that?
