How Avastin (Bevacizumab) Targeted Therapy Treats Advanced Cancer

Avastin (Bevacizumab) is a targeted cancer therapy for various types of advanced and metastatic cancers, including lung and colon cancer. In this video, #oncologist Stephen Lemon MD discusses how #Avastin works, as well as what types of side effects it may cause. Considered an angiogenesis inhibitor, Avastin stops cancer from growing by cutting off the cancer's blood supply. Avastin was the first angiogenesis inhibitor approved for the treatment of cancer in the United States. (Angiogenesis is the process of how new capillary blood vessels grow in the body)

Avastin is currently approved for treating 6 different types of metastatic and advanced cancers, including rectal and #coloncancer, lung cancer, kidney cancer, cervical cancer, ovary cancer and brain #cancer.

My mom was diagnosed with peritoneal carcinoma. Although Bevacizumab is covered by medicare in China, the doctor says since it's not combined with carboplatin, we have to pay out of our own pocket. The doctor deem my mom unfit for using carboplatin. It is a ridiculous logic that we have to pay a lot more because we used less medicine.
