In 1994 when the World Cup Football Tournament was played here in the U.S. I went to an Ireland game and was prepared to sing the irish national anthem as much as I know it. I stood, and as the fans sang, they sang in Irish. I didn't know the Irish version but stood. So much for "Soldiers are we."

This is the national anthem of the Republic of Ireland, not Ireland. Their are two internationally recognised countries on Ireland. The other country on Ireland is Northern Ireland, it has its own national anthem, that being "God Save the King".
