My father played an entire round of golf 40 years ago with a 5 iron, pitching wedge and his putter. He knew he could hit the 5 iron 3 times straight on par 5s and chip and put for par or bogey. Lessons to be learned there.

I am an old man who started the golfs last year. My best 9 hole round came last summer when I didn't have any penalties AND I didn't have any 3 putts either while using a couple of irons, a wedge and my putter. I'm not good by any stretch, but I try to be smart...and hope to be lucky.
Just as these two gentlemen preach...keep the ball in play.

My first year playing golf I made a hole in one on a par 3 at a pitch and put course. I carry the ball with me in my car everyday. I haven't golfed since, I've accomplished something some golfers can't do their whole career.
