That was probably Ron Carter. He did play on that album & he's the reigning king of the double bass.

Yep, triplet 8th notes at the last beat. Play the 2nd and 3rd one.

Listen to Badu Live Other-side Of the Game. It’ll change your life

Musically in terms of complexity perhaps there'd be many better ones but to me, double base's most memorable moments will relate to live performances of Mingus when he played Goodbye Pork Pie hat.

I’m pretty sure it was Madukwu Chinwah… He was a producer on the album & he’s a good upright bass player…

My personal favourite double bass line is on the song ‘Step Right Up’ by Tom Waits. It’s not overly complicated but it hooks you right it and holds the whole song together

That last rynthm is the 2nd partial of an 8th note triplet leading into the downbeat of the next meadure (or the last partial of a quarter note triplet leading into the downbeat)

Bassline in But Not For Me from Ahmad Jamal’s ‘58 recording: Live at the Pershing is the greatest bassline in jazz. Israel Crosby is the bassplayer.

If you’ve never heard Haitian Fight Song by Charles Mingus, it has an incredible double bass line.

I’m not completely sure if it’s a double bass, because jazz fusion but I love the bass on shh/peaceful by miles Davis, the constant repetition and the hard repeating drums give you a stepping stone to listen in to the waves of innovation that every single thing on that song is doing, and plus the actual gigantic innovation that is having a constant hard pounding rhythm in jazz (and honestly music in general), plus also the little subtle changes that the bass does give so much with so little, like just the little changes in tone and agression in the bass give so much strength and character to the whole arrangement

Jazz doesn't really have a dress code, Daniel. But we take your meaning. 😊
