I love that the first thing you said "OK that is A major" is something I will never be able to do xD

the way how you guys did it is the hardest for me personally. i find it much easier to loop the whole part and figure out the key first while it's playing in the background. the you have a ballpark and can figure out the rest

The end part..."even a musician show you on a video, it doesn't always mean he plays it exactly right. Trust your ear"
I like that statement, because that's my experience. All I did was learning from that video first to get the idea, the fine tune it by listening to the records billions times. That somewhat make me realize the diffrence. Watching the live video of the artist who play it does help(although most of the time live version differs from the record version) 🙏

I think you made it harder for yourself as I could not imagine a situation when I could listen to sg just a few times and then I should be able to play it back. I usually listen to it a "billion" times (in small pieces). So congrats to both of you! 🙂

By the way, you marked every important detail about learning by ear IMHO. The "how" and the "why"!

I especially liked that you mention that when you have the right notes it is still important to figure out where on the neck and how are those notes played! This can make a huge difference both in sound and in playability/feel!

And got to mention as well that I liked the visual (video) jokes too! 😉

Ear training!!! Know your notes. Hear the music, feel the music, be the music.

Gee... back in the day when youtube wasn't there... you also had to remember when playing by ear the artists you may have been listening to probably multi-tracked what you were trying to play. Toughest thing in many cases... let alone knowing how the guitar was tunred, capo or no capo, etc, etc... Playing be ear is a very big subject 🙂

I sing along to the notes or chords and then pause the song and find the notes while I sing.

One thing I'm sure we've all noticed when trying to use tabs, besides most of them being completely wrong, is that a lot of times the fingering is impossible for a human to play. The notes are all over the fretboard there's no way they could be played like that. It's just another good reason to learn by ear instead.
