Migrate to a tolerant area.
I lost count how many times - over 5 1/2 years - cops knocked on my truck in the night. They just told me to move on or they just checked me out and let me stay...because they were tolerant.

Former 50 of 74 years a hobo. Great advice. I would add one more that is super important tho. NO FIRES. Nothing alarms people more than a fire. First they can see the light. But even before they smell the smoke. If it's truly needed to keep from freezing to death then maybe. Even if you are caught a cop is likely to either take you to a shelter ( or jail which is still better than frostbite ). A Dakota fire ( in a pit vs above ground ) or a tin can stove will prevent the light if done correctly. There is still the smoke smell tho. As a non smoker I can smell smoke ( and the type of smoke ) much easier than smokers. Another reason to maybe quite smoking. Best tip on the cold tho is south as far as possible in winter.
