Lefkada Greece Santa Mavra Castle
Santa Mavra ( Santa Maura ) , near Lefkada, ( Αγία Μαύρα Λευκάδα ) is one of the most impressive medieval castles in Greece, built in 1300, is an example of fortification art. Located at the entrance of Lefkas island, to protect it from the invaders and the pirates, it took its name from the church of Agia Mavra that is contained in the courtyard. Every year, in August various events are held in the fort.
