I've had a bad back for years including surgery 3 years ago. Recently I lost 5 kilos in weight, the pain has gone. It makes sense really, best thing I've done!

Inactivity exacerbates back pain and sciatica. Walking is essential.

My husband suffered for years with a "bad" back. He was advised to lose belly fat and walk for an hour several timrs a week. He did so and. Is now free from pain.

I'm controlling my fatigue with diet.
For two months I wrote down everything thing I ate and how I felt.
Turns out that I can't eat wheat products because they make me exhausted.
I cut wheat out and I have a lot more energy now... Still get a bit tired sometimes but it's much better.

A few years ago I went to a chiropractor and found it was a complete waste of money. Over a hundred pounds for a 5 minute session where they ‘cracked’ my back. Did 3 of them and packed it in. Losing weight was much more beneficial!

Also, and please take this kindly, it looks like you have gained weight. I know it’s a struggle, boy do I know it, but the extra weigh is havoc for our backs. And yes, we have to change or shift our mind set, what used to take a day might now take a week with breaks in between. I garden a while and sit down and rest a while and repeat this cycle. But I won’t give up my garden because it IS zone of my joys. Take care dear boy. Easy does it.💚🐝💚

Hi Sean. I suffered with a bad back about 10 years ago. Found out it was from driving. Stopped driving and back was sorted, and I lost weight. Good luck with your back.

My Italian mother-in-law has rheumatoid arthritis and her motto is ‘don’t stop moving’ even if you are in pain. A physio once told her when you stop, you are less likely to get moving again. Pain management is best done by a specialist, in my mind.

Your back will recover. Just give it time. Your homestead needs you. I hope you feel better soon 🌷

I have suffered from back pain for thirty years now following a road accident, I carried on working til I was 55, had to retire, I was a nurse, over time its got worse, pain killers, slowly does it in most task, takes longer but I get there in my own time, I spent 2 hrs in my garden doing tasks and am suffering for it still, couple days rest I’ll be ok, keep moving, dont stop doing what you like, in your own time is the key, rest when you have to, dont give up ❤

Hope you feel better soon. When my back goes I sleep on the floor for a few days that normally does the trick. Don't give up the homestead. I look fwd to your videos every day you have a very calming voice.

I find a 24hr fast and an electric blanket helps me with my back. I find it helps with the fatigue too.

Don't despair Sean. Whenever my back goes, I feel like it's never going to get better. A trip to my chiropractor and keeping active, sorts it in a week or two. 😊

Sean I have had major back surgery and I have the same garden stool you have. I now have to flip it over and sit on it to get my gardening done. Every time I see you kneeling on it I can feel my back aching just watching you. Your motto of a little bit and often got me through a whole season of gardening last year. As we age we don’t need to give up what we love- we just need to make adjustments and give ourselves permission to do it slower and in a different manner. Good luck. The homestead is my favourite portion and it is looking fabulous. You don’t need to accomplish things as quickly as when you were 20. ❤😊 I hope this helps. Please take care of yourself . 🌸

Hi Shaun, Can I offer you some advice regarding gardening and your back. This may be of some help, go out and buy a 3ft length of drain pipe and instead of bending/ kneeling when planting seeds or bulbs place one end of the pipe where you want the seed or bulb to go and then drop it down the pipe, then use a trowel with a long handle to cover it with soil.
I also remember you recently saying that you needed new trainers for the garden, if you go into poundland they sell trainers that have reinforced metal tips in the front, although they are robust they are also very light and comfortable and only cost about £12 they are black with yellow stitching.

Consider your driving position, as a lorry driver who has had discs out and has back problems, I find if i don't get it right I might not feel it immediately but its the catalyst for whats to come. On the lorries we have lumber support and heated seats which mostly work . Stretching never ends well. You have my sympathy, don't stop just take your time

Sean i have suffered with back problems and had to retire early due to pain. I would like to recommend something that has helped me 100% CHAIR YOGA. You get so tired of medications that ease but dont cure the pain. When i started the CY i thought it was a waste of time it was so gentle. Now 6 months later i have really improved. Not totally painfree but very mobile and strong. Once you have OK from doc etc do try chair yoga its life changing

Sean there's no nice way to say it, lose the belly. It puts a strain on your back. If your chiropractors any good he'll say the same.

Thanks for the update . Keep yourself warm and rested . Once the back is on the mend ( which it definitely will be after chiropractor) you feel differently about the Homestead. Probably a case of pacing yourself with regard to horticulture…..getting advice about bending and stretching and/or exercises to strengthen your core muscles and your back .

Another thing that will help your back is to see if you can find and purchase hand trowels and other hand tools with long handles so that you dont need to bend as much, any action which avoids bending & back strain will be of benifit.
