One of the most wonderful love songs ever, period. A true Bowie masterpiece. Never tire of seeing this.

He doesn’t sound as anguished as in the original (he has his life together here) but he sounds beautiful

Word On A Wing, made me feel glorious Goosebumps all over my body the very first time I ever heard on the Station to Station album. This just did it again. So many years later and David, still sang flawless. Oh what a man what a man he was! Thankfully he lives on through his music videos, and my memories of seeing him live. 🖤

For as long as I can walk I'll walk beside you. I love that line. RIP miss you always

I know this song is secular but to me it's one of the most Christian songs I've ever heard. It's a love song to God in a raw and gritty way that you don't get in Gospel songs.

Whenever I need to pray and cry I listen to this song. I'm missing my parents tonight. I believe they are with David in heaven. I hope he knows how much we love him. 💕

In this age of grand illusion
You walked into my life
Out of my dreams
I don't need another change
Still you forced your way
Into my scheme of things

You say we're growing
Growing heart and soul
In this age of grand illusion
You walked into my life
Out of my dreams
Sweet name, you're born once again for me
Sweet name, you're born once again for me
Oh, sweet name, I call you again
You're born once again for me
Just because I believe, don't mean I don't think as well
Don't have to question everything
In heaven or hell

Lord, I kneel and offer you
My word on a wing
And I'm trying hard to fit among
Your scheme of things

It's safer than a strange land
But I still care for myself
And I don't stand in my own light
Lord, Lord, MY prayer flies
Like a word on a wing
My prayer flies
Like a word on a wing
Does my prayer fit in
With your scheme of things?

In this age of grand illusion
You walked into my life
Out of my dreams
Sweet name, you're born once again for me
Just as long as I can see, I'll never stop this vision flowing
I look twice and you're still flowing
Just as long as I can walk
I'll walk beside you, I'm alive in you
Sweet name, you're born once again for me
And I'm ready to shape the scheme of things

Ooh, ready to shape
The scheme of things
Ooh, ready to shape
The scheme of things
Ooh, ready to shape
The scheme of things
Ooh, ready to shape
The scheme of things

Lord, I kneel and offer you
My word on a wing
And I'm trying hard to fit among
Your scheme of things

It's safer than a strange land,
But I still care for myself
And I don't stand in my own light

Oh Lord, Lord, Lord, my prayer flies
Like a word on a wing
And I'm trying hard to fit among
Your scheme of things

It's safer than a strange land,
But I still care for myself
And I don't stand in my own light

Lord, Lord, my prayer flies
Like a word on a wing
My prayer flies like a word on a wing
Does my prayer fit in
With your scheme of things?

I think this is a fantastic version of probably my favourite song from such an awesome album. Bowie's voice is so deep and rich on this and Reeves Gabrels is fabulous on guitar.

What was the next song he was going to sing...?!!!

It's only now, after more than 40 years that I hear the religious undertones in this song.
I always incorrectly heard him sing "sweet dame".
Station to station was recorded during one of his darkest periods when he was battling drug addiction and other inner demons. Drugs really play havoc with a man's head.
Bowie was irreligious. An agnostic if not atheist. He was too intelligent a man to be otherwise.
To be honest, this live version doesn't have the same intensity as the studio version.
