I have been extremely discouraged and disappointed in my fish aquarium hobby. Lots of dead fish and plants. Sometimes my water parameters were great. Then an ammonia spike. The water changes were killing my back. Bucket method. At any rate I have given up. 4 years of trying and failing. But, I may try the plants in the vase/container method. Perhaps, I can succeed with that. I am always getting wonderful inspiration from you.

I started one in a giant wine glass. Inspired by this channel. I made a rock scape and a twisted piece of wood that looks like a bansai tree that pokes out the top. I put air plants on the top of the wood to make it look like a tree. I used aqua soil in it and put water plants in there. I have two minows in there. when I went to start my second one in a large vase I took some plants from the first one. I was recently surpised to find baby fish hatched out of the plants. 😂 They're so cute and enjoyable. They've been going strong about 10 months now with no issues.

Beautiful! This would be a fun project to do by collecting fish bowls and vases from thrift stores!

You know, many of the plants we have in our aquariums come from areas that will flood, then dry out. So they are used to going into an emergent mode with different leaves and stems capable of holding up in the gravity. Some will die back, except for the roots/bulbs they sprout anew as the rains fall. Love seeing your work.

Makes me so happy to see you going back to your old school shed days. Love this video!

I remember watching that video with that little cube tank. Awesome to see the growth and change over the years.

I have watched similar ecosystem and no filter aquarium videos, but MD videos are perfect because I find them all relaxing, fascinating, and relatable. I bought my first 3.5 gallon bowl so I am ready to go and try for the first time ever. Thank you 😊

I have a Walstad 5 gallon cylinder vase for my male betta. It does require more maintainence than you'd expect for a Walstad, especially one that's been active for a year, but I enjoy the tank. My betta seems to enjoy it a lot.

This is how I re-entered the aquarium hobby 😊 I'm using the clippings from my jar to start a new tank, and I'm about to re start the original with local grown plants!

This is an excellent idea for a shelf under my TV. I was thinking about a small fish tank, but just plants and snails would be ideal.

i have the same 3 vases from Ikea and decided to make it an planted aquarium. Although i added small HoB filters just to make it more sustainable for the fishes and shrimps i added 😅
