Jonathan Allen & Amie Parnes, 'Shattered'

In their latest collaboration, Allen and Parnes, authors of the comprehensive portrait of Hillary Clinton, HRC, build on their deep knowledge of the former Secretary of State to recreate her presidential campaign from start to devastating finish. Allen, who has covered national politics for journals including Politico, Bloomberg, and Vox, and now writes a weekly political column for Roll Call, and Parnes, the senior White House correspondent for The Hill, draw on access to Clinton’s aides and associates to explain her defeat. They look at factors including Comey’s allegations, but largely see Clinton herself as the source of the difficulty, responsible for problems ranging from the failure to harness populist discontent to the inability to convey a compelling vision.

Re: Tim Kaine as V.P. Kaine was a former DNC chair who stepped down creating the vacancy in which Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (HRC's former '08 campaign chair...) was elected. You cannot tell me this wasn't an insider-game from the start.
If DNC Chair DWS puts her finger on the scale the primary to ensure HRC the nomination, then Kaine gets the VP slot for as a kickback for stepping down as DNC chair, and enabling DWS to get the position.

I knew he was going to win. I tweeted out my own custom electoral map that had him winning 2 weeks before and I was very very close, I only called NV wrong.

Typical - respect her because she is a "smart woman" but totally ignore her criminal actions - deserves no respect whatsoever.

Incredible insight into the Clinton strategy at 46:15. This is why she never bothered to try to persuade voters. Data analytics basically gave her all the cover and justification she needed to avoid REAL campaigning.

Interesting how ignoring the old art of politicking persuasion helped lose the election for HC.

She lost because of her arrogance. Her attitude of entitlement, and her non likability. Without California and New York, she actually lost the popular vote. Thank God.

Shattered her ego instead of her ceiling. That's what can happen when your ego is your ceiling.

Excellent! I'm a Trump fan but now I'll have to buy this book! Great discussion all the way through the vid.

Bernie was hamstrung by DWS reducing the number of debates in the primary from 25 to 6 and preventing the candidates from participating in any debate not ran by the DNC
If there were more debates there would have been more of a chance of Bernie doing what Obama did.
DWS knew this so she drastically reduced debates

About picking Tim Kaine: he was meaningless. He neither added to her appeal nor did he take away from it. In sports parlance, he's just a guy.

I’m not stupid enough to vote for Hillary, lousy candidate. I didn’t vote for either of them, because I felt that they were going to drive America into the ground. I got to the part concerning her concession speech and how her staff tried to get her to rally the resistance against, and she just wanted to step aside graciously and start a peaceful transition, and didn’t want it to be too political. I felt a lot of respect for her for acting so mature and she put aside her pain and put the country first....
....fast forward and then Hillary Clinton is going on a “woe is me, buy my book” tour, blames everyone under the sun for her loss, said nasty things about everyone and the Democratic Party, effectively canceling out her gracious concession, and now I have even less respect for the woman today than I had for her before she even ran for

The book whitewashed much of her criminal activity - tried to give the impression that she had "won her case" over Gaza - these guys were not neutral in their writing.

The one thing I have never heard anyone say, including the media is this. She isn't the only one who got beat. 16 other Republican hopefuls got beat as well. The public was and still is fed up with career politicians. Trump won because the USA is freaking fed up and tired of career politicians. and here we are 3 years later and they still don't get it...

By not providing context for Sanders’ supporters’ anger, Allen and Parnes advance the denigrating portrayal of his base as unruly. In truth, his supporters had every right to be angry. So Allen and Parnes are republican?

Great book and confirmation of how overly and compulsively packaged she was for public consumption. I understand most politicians do this but it's hard for me to believe many go to the extent she and her team did.
