Lemnos Greece Myrina

Myrina, located on the west coast, is the capital and main port of Lemnos. It was built around two beautiful bays in the middle of which is a part Byzantine, part Venetian castle. A walk to the top of the castle is an excellent few hours spent -- wild deer roam the base of the castle, and the view from the top is amazing. On a clear day, you can see the holy Mount Athos on Halkidiki. The village has varied architecture that reflects its history: Neoclassical mansions next to Ottoman style buildngs and fountains, traditional stone houses and narrow, winding streets. Myrina has many hotels, restaurants, cafes and bars. A spectacular church, Panagia Kokoviotissa is perched above the capital, and nearby is Riha Nera, a prehistoric settlement.
