I was in my college machine shop doing a project, my rpm had an extra zero when trying to drill through some steel with a mill...lets just say I accidently discovered this form of welding causing the drill to be forever imbedded into the material. My instructor dubbed thy Excalibur. Saying everyone talks about the person who takes out the sword, but no one talks about how it go stuck to begin with lol.

Another interesting type of welding that you probably don't know about is sound welding.

The only example I know of this off hand is an engines valve stem is welded like this to its head. Considering it deals with the spring constantly slamming it shut and I’ve never hear of them failing that way, I’d say it’s a pretty solid welding method.

You can even weld wood together with this method. The natural glue that holds the fibre together gets heated up.

I work as a mentainance technician at a steering wheel factory, we use friction welding to join steel rings for steering wheels before the casting process

For all the people who don’t check their engine oil… this is what happens inside your engine, if you don’t keep your oil topped up. Not to the brim, only to the full marker on the dip stick!! 🤭🥹😂
