In this episode I make more progress with Andromeda's restoration, stripping paint from the inside and outside of the boat. I also remove the bilge runners which are screwed onto the outside of the hull below the waterline, allowing the boat to dry out and lean on them if needed. These are fastened with size 14 bronze screws, through the planking and into a fashion piece on the inside of the hull. They need to be removed so I can access the nails that hold the clinker planks together, underneath the runners!

Also, as a little birthday treat, I go for a sail in a 12ft open boat, this is a standing lug rigged sailing dinghy commonly known on the East Coast of the UK as an Essex based "Smacks Boat". Traditionally, these boats would be used by the Essex fishing smacks as a tender, to get their fishing gear and crew ashore. They can be rowed, sailed, sculled, or used with an outboard engine.

I was happy to see you using a respirator while removing paint inside the boat, but shocked to hear you describing removing "lead based putty" on the boat's bottom without a mask! Breathing copper dust, from the bottom paint, would be bad enough, but LEAD? OMG. Please, protect yourself. --- Oh, yeah: Happy Birthday! Mine is in four days! :) P.P.S. Nice dinghy!
