Stillet die Wipfel! The work is Brahms at his tenderest, and this performance is transcendent. Surely stilled not just the treetops but the stars themselves.

In answer to my own question below: von Otter *has* done Op 91 complete, on DGG, with Forsberg and Nils-Erik Sparf on viola (the original instrumentation). *Very* fine performances of both parts of the opus; and I suppose, as a violist myself, I should prefer that version. But Torleif Thedéen on cello brings a magical, ineffable, extra element to the work--spiritually at one with the singer. Exquisite live performance.

Something about her vibrato makes her sound like another string instrument :-) Gorgeous rendition!

Has she done the other song of Op 91 with these performers? The cellist is wonderful. Pianist too. Above all, what a wonderful balance and communication between all three--microtimings, subtle nuances of expressions... delicious, gorgeous beyond words.
