Concept:

“Ithaki” is a site-specific, interdisciplinary, walking and music performance of John Panagiotou, based on Verbatim Theatre. The project denotes acoustically and representative the timeless and placeless of a church and raises issues of immersion, ephemeralness, performativity and narrativity. The project discusses the reasons and the purposes of our personal journeys and choices through a debate with Cavafis thoughts, occasioned by the illogical and torturing journey of Saint Lucas, archbishop of Crimea, to exile. The repetitive walking performance in combination with the surveying of the journey through the lighting of charcoal’s pieces (as imitation to the Small Entrance during the Divine Liturgy) reflects on the dipole between the Enlightenment and the relation of modern life to death. Is it our dept to conquer the uphill path or Ithaki?

Περιγραφή:

Η Ιθάκη είναι μία επιτόπια, διαθεματική, περιπατητική και μουσική performance του Γιάννη Παναγιώτου, βασισμένη στο Verbatim Theatre. Το έργο υποδηλώνει ηχητικά και εικαστικά το άχρονο και το άχωρο μιας εκκλησίας και θέτει ζητήματα εμβύθισης, εφημερότητας, επιτελεστικότητας και αφηγηματικότητας. Με αφορμή το ανορθολογικό και μαρτυρικό ταξίδι του Αγίου Λουκά αρχιεπισκόπου Κριμέας προς την εξορία, το έργο διαλογίζεται τα αίτια και τους σκοπούς των προσωπικών μας ταξιδιών και επιλογών, μέσα από μια αντιπαράθεση με Καβαφικές σκέψεις. Η επαναληπτική περιπατητική δράση σε συνδυασμό με την χαρτογράφηση του ταξιδιού μέσω του ανάμματος κομματιών από κάρβουνο (εις μίμηση της μικράς εισόδου κατά την Θεία Λειτουργία), αναλογίζεται την επιτυχία του διαφωτισμού και τη σχέση της σύγχρονης ζωής με τον θάνατο.
Είναι χρέος μας η ανηφόρα ή η Ιθάκη;
