Indonesia's first 7-Eleven opened in 2009 and became a popular hangout spot for consumers. At their peak in the Southeast Asian country, they numbered 190 stores, offering free Wi-Fi and a seating area for guests while selling fresh local meals and traditional 7-Eleven snacks like the Slurpee. Despite the chain's popularity, the franchisee, PT Modern Internasional, shuttered all remaining 161 stores there in 2017.

I'm Indonesian, the main reason I think is that 711 is like a lifestyle for us. But Alfamart and Indomaret is like a need. If I need groceries, I will find it in Alfamart or Indomaret. But if I want to hang out a lil bit, I went to 711.
The problem is, for Indonesian, lifestyle is changing rapidly. Today it booming and tomorrow comes new popular things.
So the main problem I think is because 711 just a lifestyle for us Indonesian. Except they open their store in an apartment!

In The Philippines, Alfamart was expanded since 2016 and now has 1000 branches nationwide mostly in Metro Manila and Calabarzon which is a dignified friendship between the Philippines and Indonesia

I did a case study on 7Eleven at campus, you didn’t mention the regulation about foreign mini market having to have seating areas and be included as a mini restaurant?
Seeking local partners would have helped for this, but won’t minimize the competitions, if anything, it would generalize them even further and put them in fair competition with Indomaret/alfa. They need better USP than Slurpies & Nacho Cheese if they want to survive. 😂
