ΒΟΪΔΟΚΟΙΛΙΑ ΜΕΣΣΗΝΙΑ ~ VOIDOKILIA Beach Messinia GREECE

Η Βοϊδοκοιλιά είναι παραλία της Μεσσηνίας που θεωρείται από τις ομορφότερες της Μεσογείου. Είναι διάσημη κυρίως για το ολοστρόγγυλο σχήμα της που θυμίζει το γράμμα Ω. H παραλία αντιστοιχεί στην παραλία Βουφράδα στην οποία, σύμφωνα με την Οδύσσεια, έφτασε o Τηλέμαχος, με σκοπό να συναντήσει τον Νέστορα και τον Μενέλαο για να μάθει νέα για τον πατέρα του τον Οδυσσέα. Στη βόρεια πλευρά της παραλίας βρίσκονται τα ερείπια θολωτού τάφου της Μυκηναϊκής περιόδου o οποίος ανήκε στον γιό του Νέστορα Θρασυμήδη. Στην νότια πλευρά της βρίσκεται η σπηλιά του Νέστορα όπου φυλάσσονταν τα κοπάδια του Νηλέα, πατέρα του Νέστορα. Σύμφωνα με τη μυθολογία στη σπηλιά αυτή έκρυψε ο Ερμής το κοπάδι που έκλεψε από τον Απόλλωνα. Σε κοντινή απόσταση βρίσκεται και το παλάτι του Νέστορα με τον αρχαιολογικό χώρο.

Voidokilia is a popular beach in Messinia in the Mediterranean area. In the shape of the Greek letter omega (Ω), its sand forms a semicircular strip of dunes. The beach has been named "A Place of Particular Natural Beauty". The beach is presumed to be Homer's "sandy Pylos" where Telemachus was welcomed by King Nestor when searching for his father, Odysseus. Overlooking the beach at the north is the tomb of Nestor's son, Thrasymedes of the Mycenaean period. Above the beach at the south is Nestor's Cave. According to myth, Nestor's Cave is where Hermes hid the cattle stolen from Apollo. Nearby is the Palace of Nestor with the archaeological site.

Beautiful! You guys took amazing shots of the most important sites of west Peloponessoss. Been there at the beach and the palace, but never went up those hills to see the cave and the tomb.
