My Dad Seeing Color For The First Time

For my dad's entire life, he has been red-green colorblind. For father's day we decided to purchase a pair of Pilestone colorblind glasses for him. At first I was very skeptical and afraid that the glasses would not work. But once he put them on, I knew we made the right purchase. This video documents my father's reaction of seeing color for the first time. Enjoy!

Side note: Originally I was going to buy the EnChroma glasses (which had better reviews.) However, the currency exchange rate, shipping, duty & tax for importing into Canada was too expensive.

American Academy of Ophthalmology state categorically: "Colorblindness-correcting glasses will not change color perception for people whose deficiency is caused by a complete absence of red or green photoreceptors."

How does your dad know these 'new' colors one from one another, if he has never seen them before?

Voir un coucher de soleil, voir les peintures dans les musées, voir une forêt, voir la mer, voir le ciel, voir un arc en ciel, voir la couleur de la peau, des yeux, des cheveux de ses proches... quelles émotions pour ces personnes habituées à voir les choses en gris ! La couleur c'est vivifiant, c'est joyeux.

Update: A lot of people have mentioned to me that the Enchroma glasses are better than the Pilestone ones. I'm currently looking into getting him a pair!

I was blessed with exceptional colour vision and it always bothered me that so many don't have it to my degree but also I have known quite a few with differing types of colour blindness who seem to go through life just barely managing to fool many around them. A couple of times one of them asked me to help him with wiring colour in cars at work and I showed him a couple of workarounds to help him. I'm fascinated by these types of videos and seeing these folks come more into this view of the world that I have been blessed enough to see with no help.

try to get Enchroma glasses for your dad - they are 100% better - I had this cheap pilestone as well and the difference is huge!

Did you use a special filter on your camera to highlight the love, because it's quite bright ! B-)
Elsewhere "Corey Wyer Art" does a "long term review" of his experience with the glasses and how the mind re-learns things. He's quite eloquent and presumably helpful in understanding what's going on, but also in trying to keep expectations realistic.

Colorblind peeps can see colors. Our issue is that we cannot see the well enough to differentiate between other colors, say for instance like various shades of green, or yellow or orange, etc. We might, after studying them, be able to infer slight differences between the shades but in a blind test the ability to differentiate doesn't exist. I'm thinking that a pair of specs can't cure that problem.

Il faut être bien conscient que chacun voit les couleurs à sa façon ... et que personne ne peut être sûr que les couleurs qu'il voit sont les mêmes que celles que les autres Que vous soyez daltonien ou non.... Le nom d'une couleur bleu, vert, rouge etc ne correspond qu'à ce que chacun voit et a appris à reconnaitre comme étant telle ou telle couleur, à sa perception personnelle et à sa palette de couleurs propre à ses yeux. Donc on reconnaitra cette couleur en la nommant correctement, mais à savoir si les autres voient en réalité la même chose que vous, c'est impossible à savoir. Les lunettes apportent plus de C'est pareil pour le gout : amer, sucré, acide.... Ne dit on pas que à chacun ses gouts et ses couleurs !!! Ou tous les gouts sont dans la nature !!! ... C'est ce qui fait notre diversité et notre sensibilité.
