As an Amazon associate, I earn commissions on qualified sales. Thank you.

Installing an outlet on the exterior of a home can have many uses: Christmas lights, chargers, inflatables. Here, we cut a hole into the side of the home and install a brand-new outlet using an all-included kit.

Im an electrician and personally Im not a fan of the horizontal install with an extra exterior box. I know its easy because you just use the rear knockout and dont have to cutout a rectangle for the device box, and you dont have to worry about the ribs of the vinyl, but I think it makes it stick out too much and not as aesthetic.

If youre not a fan of those traditional vinyl blocks, Arlington sells outlet covers that is a vinyl cover and device box all in one, very convenient, and it has ridges that perfectly matches the siding

Why did you install a GFCI outlet down stream from a GFCI? Because it came with the kit?

Thank you for the great video and the tips on the horizontal install, you made it look so easy - I'm finally going to do it myself.

HEY. You got the cover upside down.
Shouldn't the cord slot be on the bottom so the rain doesn't get in.

You don't need a second GFCI Receptacle on the Outside, just use the load terminals on the inside GFCI receptacle and put a weatherproof regular receptacle on the outside. Thanks, Russ, 29 years in the Electrical Trade

Why did you add them both to the line side?

Doesn't it require conduit running to a junction box inside by code?

Nice work nice material. This is very helpful. However I don’t see the benefit of working with live outlet. I think we all should get in the habit of turning off the power.

I have a really nice exterior outlet. But it has standoffs of 1/8" or so. I am thinking silicone will do it.
