Previewing APPLE's Spring Loaded April 2021 EVENT

Now that Apple has confirmed the 20 April 2021 as the date for its Spring Event, I thought I'd review some of the product launch rumours and consider what's likely.

Will we see a new iPad Pro or iPad Mini? Will the long-awaited AirTags finally appear? How about a 3rd generation iPhone SE or AirPods 3? And do we think we're likely to see any new Apple Silicon Macs at this event, like the new iMac or MacBook Pro?

Very good content. I really enjoy the way you bring arguments and content. Always a pleasure to listen.

Because of the shortage in the iMac 21" lineup maybe a M1 24" iMac will be launched soon, and the bigger one will be delivered in september with the new MacBook Pro 14" and 16".

iPad mini/iPad mini Pro along with a new iMac M1X is what I’m hoping for. Maybe the iPad mini now, then the new iMac later on would work for me.

Another brilliant video. Question: Should I replace my old 2015 MacBook Pro with the new M1 now or there is a hope for a new more powerful 13 inch one coming later this year!

I think it’s pretty likely that we’ll at least get an M1 iMac with the new iMac models in the beta, the discontinuation of certain models, the Xcode crash log showing an ARM iMac, As well as a bunch of other little peculiar details

it seems to me that the recent removal of those imacs is the best clue to the impending release of the new models. even if it doesn't fit with their usual yearly release cycle, they are looking forward to releasing the first arm imac sooner since they know we are anticipating them, for one. they have a limited time to keep up with the announced 2-year transition schedule too. so getting all the consumer macs out aside before the 1-year mark would leave them enough time to then gradually release pro machines and with time to sort out all issues until the time comes to release arm the mac pro. they'll probably release the pro laptops at wwdc and later just do an event or an ad for the larger imac with even higher specs based on the newer soc.

Two 24" iMac models have pretty much leaked in the latest macOS beta software update. And they're coming in 5 different colors, according to the leaks. I don't think the 32" iMac is coming at this moment.

Hoping for an iPad Mini update personally. Don't want them to let that model languish again and I also want to snag one!

I’ll be one of those “patiently” waiting for the 16” m1x mbp .. best wishes though for those eager for lesser devices...

I, too, suspect at least some new Mac computer soon, because every passing day without a new M1 desktop is another day with fewer Mac sales.

Only thing that makes me think we *might* still see something Mac, like the iMac, is that if not, WWDC will be intensely packed. 16"MBP (14"?), iMac, talk of M1X generally, and the software - macOS 12, iOS 15, tvOS 15, iPadOS 15 (yes it's basically the same as iOS, but know that it has its own name it's sort of an implicit promise to also keep it a little special and give it its own slot for what makes it unique - perhaps announcing more in-house apps here, potentially the pro apps; Though Final Cut on an iPad will never really be the same as on a Mac, but that's a different rant). And what about the higher end Mac mini? Will it get a short bit of time too or will I just be a silent update at some point after the M1X is out for other stuff?
Regardless, WWDC seems so packed that it feels like it could be hard to keep it at/under 2 hours like they usually like to do

I feel very confident that A14X will, aside from the encore, be different to the M1 by 100MHz, maybe a tad more; 200-300.
Maybe across the board, maybe just some cores/GPU, but mainly just for battery and heat in the hands I expect it to be just ever so slightly down-clocked from the M1.
Similarly, aside from the un-core and additional cores, I expect M1X to clock slightly higher in all aspects, performance cores maybe excepted

regarding imacs, appears you are incorrect now with the information just released.

It's named 'spring loaded' if I'm not mistaken, spring forward was the last one or something like that.

I think they will announce macs in September or October event.

All sounds reasonable. But I would love an iPad mini ”Pro” or a redesigned iMac.
The only thing that talks against all the Macs being revealed at WWDC is that it’ll be a lot of hardware with both Macbook Pro and iMacs.

Dunno ... there are three levels of iMac (now two now that the iMac Pro has been sunsetted) - the 21.5" which is the lower tier model and the 27" 5K which is targeted at the Prosumer level.

As stated before, the iMac Pro has been retired, and the 21.5" CTO options have been become unavailable (higher RAM and SSD), and the 21.5" wasn't updated last year (unlike the 27").

I can see Apple waiting for an update of the 27" until WWDC - that's the model developers would buy - but I could see the 21.5" replacement (24"?) being updated next week as there are now holes in the product lineup. While they could put an M1 into this machine, I think you'd expect it to run a bit faster than the low level MacBook Pro and Mini, so I could see this machine's processor appearing in a high level 13" MacBook Pro (to become 14"?), possibly a high level Mini, and the low tier iMac.

These models may actually get different form factors.

The 27" iMac replacement (and possibly 16" MacBook Pro) I wouldn't expect until WWDC.

I've sold my 16" MacBook Pro because I expect that Intel model to become harder to sell as time goes on - and besides, who's traveling nowadays - and I'm torn between a high level 13" and 16" MacBook Pro as a replacement. My 2020 iMac I'll probably retain since it's got a beautiful display and it remains boot campable, accomplishes my workflow, and is capable of playing Windows games (which of course the Apple Silicon replacement will not).

With iMac, i was on your side. Now, the worsening of the existing 21" iMac lately seems to me to give an entry to the 24" iMac. AirTags are very likely, because Apple has finally found some 'allies' to show 3rd party products.

It seems to be that Apple's transition is to M1. :D ... What a disappointing event!
