Hiya, pleased to meet you. Stukulele became my 'persona' when I became a ukulele instructor in 2011. I am from Mullumbimby, Northern New South Wales, Australia, and a James Hill Ukulele Initiative Certified Level 3 teacher.
I began playing the ukulele at age 42 after being gifted a ukulele for fathers day. Things have not been the same since. My (at the time) 6-year-old daughter landed me my first teaching job at her primary school… then came community colleges… after 4 terms my students asked where do we go now? A monthly UKE NIGHT – Uke Mullum lead by my partner Miss Amber and me... 'Stukulele' was born in July 2011 in the middle of our winter… over 200 people showed up on a Wednesday night.
Since then I have been creating monthly themed UKE NIGHTS which consists of choosing a theme, then picking 20 + songs that fit the theme to create a songbook. Then I assemble the best vocalists and musicians to present the themed set live for an audience of folk who sing and strum along. It’s a month-long process in which I learn and teach songs that often I have never played or sometimes even heard of.
Why you may ask? Because I love it. Music is the language of love and it keeps your brain active, staving off all the ravages of old age. The Ukulele just makes the whole process so enjoyable and achievable. Come with me every month, be involved in choosing the monthly themes.. discover and learn new songs. Broaden your repertoire, your mind, ukulele skills, compassion, and speak the language of love and be a part of a community of like-minded folk.
