Merlin Marr-Johnson sat down with David Kelley, CEO of Chakana Copper Corporation (TSX-V: PERU), to discuss the technical aspects of the company’s flagship Soledad project.

Chakana Copper is a Canadian based junior exploration company advancing its Soledad project near Aija, Peru. The company acquired the Soledad property in 2017 which hosts Copper, Silver and Gold mineralisation. The Soledad project’s mineralisation is primarily hosted in copper-bearing tourmaline breccia pipes. Breccia pipes, also referred to as chimneys are cylindrical mineral deposits.

The company believes that the Soledad project contains between 50 and 100 Breccia pipe deposits, which the company plans to aggressively explore in the following months. The company recently released an initial resource estimate for several of the Tourmaline Breccia pipes.
The seven breccia pipes start at surface extending to a depth of 300 m with all being open at depth. Chakana Copper plans to implement both underground and open-pit mining at the Soledad project. The inferred resources that are extractable by underground mining methods consist of 4.8 million tons of inferred resources, with grades of 0.72 g/t gold, 61 g/t silver and 0.97% copper. The inferred resources extractable by open-pit methods consist of 1.9 million tons of resources with grades of 1.29 g/t gold, 37.1 g/t silver and 0.65% copper.

Chakana Copper has drilled 16 out of the 110 targets that it originally defined in 2019. The initial resource estimate is comprised of 7 of the 16 exploration holes drilled. The company recently completed both gradient array and offset IP surveys which have led to the identification of numerous new targets.

Chakana Copper plans to continue its exploration of the north-half of its property which is fully permitted in the coming months as well as explore additional targets in the south-half of the property including the Compañero breccia pipe complex.
