Berkeley, California is being sued by RealPage, a company that has developed algorithms used to jack up apartment rental prices.

"The city of Berkeley, California is being sued by RealPage over its ban on algorithms used to determine apartment rental prices. The lawsuit states that Berkeley’s ordinance passed in March represents a “sweeping and unconstitutional ban on lawful speech,” and a violation of the First Amendment’s prohibition on content-based restrictions."

TYT is the largest online news network in the country. It presents news, context and analysis. We have dozens of on-air hosts on half a dozen major channels on almost all the platforms. We also have a live 24-hour news channel that features all our shows.

The Young Turks is the flagship show of the TYY Network. The Young Turks is the longest running daily show in internet history. We’re about to celebrate our 20th anniversary as a digital native show. We are also the first ever YouTube partner channel. So, we are the original YouTubers.

On the network, we do things a little differently than other places. We present the news first, with all of the facts and context you need, which is a rarity in commentary-heavy online shows. We then also give analysis and perspective, which is rare in traditional news.

Our commentary and perspective are almost always on the left, but we have an enormous range of opinions on the network. Hosts are allowed to think and say whatever they like. Perspectives usually range from the far left to the center of the political spectrum.

Now, our presence and range is large enough that we are adopting the tagline The Online News Network. Our longevity, our 27 million subscribers and 30 billion lifetime views allows us to make this claim confidently.

TYT emphasizes open-minds and open-hearts. We believe in fighting for the average American. We believe in challenging the powerful. We are vigilant about pursuing the truth to the best of our abilities and for always being honest with our audience. We’ve been proud to serve the internet for longer than any other news show or network. As one of the founding fathers and mothers of online media, we have always believed that digital media would become the dominant news source for all Americans. We’re thrilled that day is here and that TYT is where everyone can come to see The Online News Network.

TYT includes owned and operated and partner shows such as The Young Turks, The Damage Report, Indisputable, and more.

TYT’s 24/7 programming is available on YouTube TV, Samsung TV, Plus, Roku, Xumo, TCLtv+, Fubo, and more.

TYT is also available as a podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, TuneIn, Amazon Music, and more.

Part of the solution to solve the housing crisis and outrageous house prices, is to ban corporations, investment firms, and foreign interests from buying up as many residential homes they can get their hands on and intentionally lowering supply so they can justify maximizing profit at all costs.

The real problem is greed by landlords and corporations.

My biggest concern is how I will survive all these financial and political crises, especially given the power struggle in the US. The government has really made things more difficult for it's citizens, and we cannot sit idly by and suffer all the consequences of poor governance

Private equity firms buying private homes is what’s driving up prices, and short term rentals is the icing on the shitty cake.

Property tax and rent should be ILLEGAL. Human beings should only be paying for essentials like clothes, food, water, and energy. Housing shouldn't be a life long expense that you need to keep paying for over and over again, even if you're no longer here. That is a SCAM. PERIOD.

As a Texan whose had to put up with RealPage's horseshit, WELL DONE CALIFORNIA.

my rent is like 90% of my income and it's only 2 rooms, living-room/bathroom. they accept low income housing for my apartment, but I have to wait years to be approved for low income housing, which made me realize. It's not that there is a lack of housing that accepts low income housing. It's a lack of approving people who qualify for it. there's more places that accepted low income housand than there are people who'll be allowed for approval to receive low income housing.

Anti-competitive collusion like this violates fundamental justifications for capitalism.

This enables the creation of price cartels. Which is already illegal in the US.

I thought that The Sherman Act prevented price fixing

If it is about not building enough houses, than why is land so ridiculously expensive?

It looks and sounds like all the basic elements of a Civil RICO Act case in a perfect storm.
It's all there for US AG Pam Bondi to prosecute:

Enterprise, Pattern of racketeering activity, Interstate Commerce, defendant's involvement (all those member landlords & the CEO of Real Page), causation of injury (homelessness is definitely a cause and an injury, plus the injury to the taxpayers who have to pay more for homeless services), and finally, rellationship of all the defendants to the Real Page enterprise.

Of course, AG Bondi is a house mouse who seems very interested in surviving a Trump public shaming for a wrong step, so this is considered radioactive to her.

Free speech does not protect anti trust. Creating a non competitive industry is contrary to good business.

Disagree; The biggest issue in obtaining affordable housing is that even the most basic real estate is permitted to be marketed and sold for the expectation of accruing profit. Ana, you can argue the point all day that private sector involvement provides quicker, cheaper, and more efficient service for many different things, but I'll tell you right now: Rentals are NOT one of them and never will be. Thus, we should concede that housing *must* be enshrined as a right of American citizenship. PERIOD.

Housing should be a human right, one day the world will realise this

Collusion as well as monopolies should be illegal, of course bought Congress will not act against who feeds them.

I don't like the fact that there is an app that believes keeping the rent is the way to go especially in California where everything is.already expensive the tenants should not accept to pay that high price and give the landlord a garbage rating and the landlord turns around and gives realpage and others like it a garbage rating that will. help everyone in the long run because we allow the mess to happen

I kind of wanted to see how you guys are feeling these days. Remember when you said we were overreacting and saying that Trump disappearing people and sending them off to gulags remember how we were overreacting. Are you ready to have a beer with them now?
I wonder if these homeless Tren de araguans are still causing apartment complexes in CO problems?
