You missed off the part where you go off to Google the 568b pin order, print it off, faff about ordering the conductors up a ladder in the rain with reading glasses on then crossing your fingers it tests o.k.

What about using a continuity tester? To ensure the connections are good and there is no intermittent connection. These cables use Tx and Rx so data can be lost and misleading. You could end up making a crossover cable instead.

After 40+ years in IT I have never experienced a RJ45 being called a glass head ( until now ). Got very use to specifying RJ11 and RJ45 plugs to be used on screened or unscreened cable.

There are a few AV manufacturers who will not support open ended crimps for connections ( though they seem to work ok ), Atlona and Wyrestorm being two.

Like others have said, it’s much better to terminate a screened cable to a screened plug or socket.

Also ( and I accept for most installations there is no reason), we put all our cables through a 15k calibrated Fluke tester and provide a warranty. It’s surprising how many cables will pass on a simple LED continuity tester but will fail on a certification test.

I got to say I think pass-through (ez-rj45) are asking for trouble. Using the rj45 with the bridge/loadbar is just as quick. Also any reason you are using F/UTP and a unshielded rj45 connector? Breaking an earth path between buildings or something?

EDIT: Hope I have not come across all negative, I really enjoy ur content! Thanks you :)

Quick Tip: If you have trouble unwrapping the pairs you can use the coat you cut off and put it between the two pairs get them apart.

I see there a lot of ways to do this... I find It sooo much easier to first strip the wires long (around 8-10 cm), then use the center plastic piece (in Cat6A cables at least) to split the pairs by sticking it between the pairs and drag it towards the end. Then you can feed one lead into the the pass trough connector one at the time. When all leads are passed trough you can twist them and when you then use the tool they all fall off together and is easy to pick up.

"Glass head"? Never heard them called that before.

Should be noted that with these connectors its easier to create certifiable terminations with minimal data loss because you are able to push the sheath right up next to the pins, this means less of the conductors are untwisted, reducing cross talk and potential for interference. Not so important for low speeds but at high speeds( > gigabit) you definitely need to make your terminations in this way.

Put the boot on first
Pull the string (little silver wire) to split the insulation.
Strippers can cut the wire insulation and cause shorts.

The only issue i have with any connector is if its staggered or not. When staggered each cable has there own chamber and prevents the pin from slipping to the side and/or the cables all shifting.

Ive never had any issue with a CAT6 connector (thicker) being used with CAT5 cable (thinner) that if used in a normal CAT6 connector love to slip to the side and the pin then only sits next to the connector. Although it still makes contact, it allows for movement in the future and over time it oxidizes so when it moves there's that layer of oxidation that ruins the connection. Or just plainly get pulled out, see that ALL the time despite the sheath still being crimped on.. the wires still slide underneath.

If working on an installation subject to compliance regulations wrt RFI, likely going to fail if ignoring the screen connection. Assuming screened cable was specified for a reason other than to increase cost for no reason...

If we twist the wires before cutting it then all the wires stay together and you only got one to pick up.

Those passthrough connectors look awesome.. have made quite a few rj45 cables and having to get the wire length right so that the bottom crimp still has outer sleeving to crimp onto can be a right pain!

I use them all the time, they are so easy. Good video Gordon

Had to watch that twice, it's all upside down from the way I do it but the same result. Whatever works for you.

Can you post the tools used in this video please or a link to them

Pass trough connectors are easy to use but less reliable than a regular connector. If you know how to troubleshoot network issues go ahead and use them. Otherwise, stay clear of them.

What would have made this video essential is a statement of what the order of wire colours is.

The only tools necessary to complete this task is;
1. All purpose cable scissors ✂️ (you could ask to borrow Cory’s)
2. Small jewelers slotted screwdriver with smooth shaft
3. RJ-45 crimping tool
Tips;
1. Give yourself more to work with, I give myself about 4” or 100mm of conductors (The width of my palm)
2. Don’t cut all your conductors the same length, cut it at a slight angle so that you’re only putting one conductor through right after the other into the fitting at a time it’s much faster.
3. After running it through twist the conductors together on the other side of the fitting to give yourself a handle to hold the wire taut to get a better cut.
It was a good go for an electrician though!

Endless problems with that brand, they don't tend to crimp the pins evenly. I'm a fan of pass through with a different style of crimp.
