This may be The Who's best song. It's timeless and always sounds incredible.

TIMELESS.

The drum fill and Entwistle’s slide into his bass solo is one of the great moments in rock. And such a heavy song is arguably driven by Pete’s acoustic…

The Stones and The Beatles knew the new kids on the block were serious!!!

The Who!! The original punk band. I'm 64 and sadly, never saw them live. But the music lives forever!! Peace.

Classic, plain and simple. This supreme rock classic by The Who needs no introduction whatsoever. Substitute was class in 1966 and is class now, it just brilliant, great bass, great drums, great guitar and great lyrics. One of those songs which should never ever be covered. Substitute got to No.5 back in APril 1966 and was the UK's No.64 of 1966.

When I listen to these tunes I can hear the bass sounding like a powerful rhythm guitar.

Not many bands feature a bass break, and the Ox was the best man for them.

The Who sound owes a lot to Pete Townsends songwriting, pure lyrical genius.  As for their best song, thats highly debatable but I would think their best known song was the one for the Mods and has to be My Generation.

Ah, the longer studio version! They always played the shorter one live, still great.
