CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Jane's (Katherine Heigl) engagement party speech for Tess (Malin Akerman) and George (Edward Burns) takes a dark time.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
A single woman who has served as a bridesmaid a shocking 27 times wrestles with the prospect of supporting her sister at the altar on number 28, despite having fallen helplessly in love with her smitten sibling's handsome husband-to-be. Jane (Katherine Heigl) has the kind of altruistic traits that everyone looks for in a friend, yet lately the perennial bridesmaid has begun to feel as if something is missing in her life. One night, local newspaper reporter Kevin (James Marsden) spots the devoted bridal attendant racing between receptions in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and quickly surmises that her quirky tale may be just the story to get him off the bridal beat and into the big time. Immediately suspicious of the cynical reporter's motivations, Jane butts heads with Kevin just as her younger sister Tess (Malin Akerman) shows up in town. While Jane has always put the needs of friends and family before her own wants and desires, she's suddenly prompted to reevaluate her priorities when her boss -- with whom she is secretly in love -- falls for her younger sister Tess. When Tess and Jane's boss George (Edward Burns) make plans to marry, the smitten younger sibling mistakenly assumes that her lovelorn older sibling will be happy to take part in the wedding. For as far back as Jane can remember, she has sacrificed her own happiness for the sake of those she holds dearest, but now that her heart has been broken, she's finally found the courage to be honest with herself. Now, as Jane finally comes to terms with her true feelings, her life begins to change in ways she never expected. Judy Greer and Melora Hardin co-star in a romantic comedy scripted by The Devil Wears Prada screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna and directed by Anne Fletcher (Step Up).

I cannot express how relieved I am that I have found other people who agree that Jane was totally justified in doing this. Tess used Jane and treated her poorly and cut up their mom’s dress when she KNEW that Jane wanted the original dress. Not to mention that Jane gave Tess one last chance before she did the slideshow to come clean with the pig-in-a-blanket. Tess got what she deserved, and I don’t think Jane did anything wrong after what Tess did to her.

If Tess hadn't destroyed their mother's wedding dress prior to this, I would have thought Jane went OTT in this scene - just a bit. But I feel Jane was completely justified in this scene. Tess ruining their mother's dress to make it look fashionable was literally the straw that broke the camel's back alongside her lying and deception.

It’s fun to hear the audience’s laughter die off as they realize this is a revenge show instead of a cute joke show.

I LOVED this...the little sister got what she deserved no one should lie their way into a marriage. Not a good foundation to build on.

I guess Tess will think twice before she does something more stupid like lying about her background, because its wrong, VERY wrong. Not matter what reason she has for George. George does not want to spend the rest of his life with frauds.

Not only was Tess lying to George, she was also lying to everyone he cared about, his family and friends. Everyone in the room deserved to know the truth.

I still can't believe they tried to redeem Tess and implied she got back together with George at the end; after essentially faking her identity to the man she was planning on spending the rest of her life with and showing next-to-no remorse, could he ever trust her again?

Jane had every right to do that so I guess that makes me a terrible person. Tess knew Jane wanted the dress and the boathouse. She literally stole her entire wedding idea and didn’t even feel bad about it. She even threw it in her face like why would she want the leftover scraps of your mother’s dress when you could’ve gotten one that you actually wanted.

Heigl’s delivery of “And… so was she” at 1:27 is especially satisfying in a whole scene that was satisfying.

Tess deserved that call out and Jane shouldn't have been yelled out for doing so since she had been ingoring her sister's advice. Ignoring the realization that Tess has been abusing her sister's kindness.

My favorite part of this is that she says exactly the speech her sister gave her. >:) karma

I hate that people turned on Jane for, not only defending herself, but trying to save a man she cared about. Tess deserved every single bit of this and more. So did their dad for always backing Tess.

I love this scene so much, as psychotic as it was.

George: " So, safe to say you're not a vegetarian. "
Tess: " George, that was taken
a really long time ago!... "
George: " Why exactly were you wearing
your engagement ring then? "

Tess more than deserved that, Jane totally rocked in this scene.

Grows up caring for her pretty little sister, becomes a people pleaser, keeps her own feelings and needs repressed and releases it all cruelly in one night. This should be shown in psychology classes.

Jane may have stooped to Tess's level here, but it seems justified given Tess's lies and arrogance. Let's not forget about poor little Pedro with his "cleaning business"! Jane's speech and video weren't solely about what she had done to George.

What happened to the dress wasn't respectful, and aside from Jane's feelings, it could have also hurt her father's feelings finding out the wedding dress was cut up and without any forewarning. No, Jane didn't say anything to Tess from what we know in the movie about her feelings towards the dress, but we also need to remember that she had issues speaking up and standing up for herself. However, she may have spoken up had she known what Tess had planned to do with the dress.

Lastly, let's not forget that George stated he always liked Jane because "she never says no". So we might say that George isn't all that innocent or pure a person either.

I love to see a shallow weeding falling apart even before it could happen
