When I started reading Tolkien at age 12 (1980), I never would have thought the great author would be a unique cultural protector. People like me, with similar values, 'gather' or coalesce around Tolkien with a kind of reverence, and it seems today like his words are some of the few things that may save our cultural values from the onslaught of evil now assailing us.

Boromir teaches us how to act when we fail. Faramir teaches us how to act when others fail us.

Boromir's death hits Aragorn hard I think. Boromir is trying to bear the weight of leadership and his people but not being ordained to be King he is near certain to fail. Aragorn sees that Boromir is doing the task Aragorn is supposed to be. Thus inspiring Aragorn in his heroism and that now is the right time to become the King.

These poetry videos are great. Not only does John do an excellent job narrating but the commentary afterwards helps me understand the techniques used. And I don't know jack about poetry so it's great to understand why Tolkien and Kipling's stuff works so well.

Boromir was always one of, if not my favorite character from the Rings series. A formidable and gallant man, who sought to save the world of men, but in doing so, falls prey to the temptations of the ring of power, in a bid to try and harness it against those who created it. He is flawed, but his flaws are human, and understandable, while also showing that he is also a very kind, caring, and protective person; as seen with the relationship with Merry and Pippin in particular. He ultimately is briefly driven mad by the ring's influence, but realizes the error of his ways, and that he was weak (like in the film when he admits to Aragorn that he was stronger than him, and that "he did what he could not, " in resisting the temptations of the ring). His subsequent final moments are one hell of a redemptive event for him, and one of the greatest "blaze of glory" deaths for a character, ever. Giving all he had in an attempt to save the halflings, mowing down numerous enemies in the process, and finally giving his respect, admiration, and acceptance of Aragorn as the rightful King of Gondor.
Godspeed, Boromir 🤟🏻

This remains my favorite poem from LOTR, and it has beautiful covers by Eurielle and Clamavi De Profundis.

When I first read The Lord of the Rings, that lament hit me so hard that I couldn't read more for about three days. It's a deeply moving poem that highlights the importance of Boromir, the fellowship, and it's breaking. The fellowship breaks like the heart, as it is an inevitability for all.

BROromir is the best character in LotR along with Sam the chad and Smeagol. Many manly tears are shed each time I rewatch The Fellowship and get to the battle of Amon Hen.

Not only is the material very enjoyable to read, but just hearing it, is enjoyable. Shows how well tolkien constructed dialog and chose the rights words aswell as how its read and narrated very well. Thanks

This scene was so strange and yet cool. Aragorn and legolas suddenly just breakout into poetry apropos of nothing

The death of Boromir reminds the rootless Aragorn of the debt he owes his kingly ancestors, and the obligation he owes the people of Minas Tirith to take up the fallen Boromir's protector role, without Boromir's death, Aragorn might never have realized this, and lived to the end of his days as Strider, and the people of the white city would have fallen to the forces of Mordor never knowing the name of their king, Boromir served his city and its people by his death better than any act he could have performed in life, a noble sacrifice by a noble man of the West....
