Continental TKC 80 2,000 Mile Review | How Does It Perform? | Worst ADV Tire You Can Buy?

It's time to do the 2,000 mile review on the Continental Tkc 80 rear tire. I just wanted to give you my pros and cons on the tire and how it performed on pavement and off road in sand, hard rock, mud and gravel on my Suzuki V-strom 1000. I also compare it to the Shinko 805 and the Motoz Tractionator Adventure. In my opinion this isn't a terrible adv motorcycle tire but it wears out fast and for what it cost I don't think it's a real good value. With that being said it performed better than I thought it would and I'm sure it's a good tire for some people that don't ride their adventure motorcycle very many miles per year. As always thanks for watching and please consider subscribing!

Hopefully this video will help you out on making your next adv motorcycle tire purchase. I have now replaced it with the Motoz Tractionator Adventure and can't wait to hit some dirt! Thanks for watching and please consider subscribing. 👊

Motoz is the way to go. Great in the dirt / off road and much better than expected on the road. Did the SM500 Easter weekend. RAINED it's tail off and the tire was awesome !

That torque monster you're on eats them up! I run a shinko 805 rear, tkc80 front on my versys and have around 5000 miles on them and still have tread and that's riding two up a lot. That motoz looks awesome though. Great review..

Thanks Greg, I am overwhelmed that you chose to wear a VW "Verbal Widget" shirt on your excellent review, 🤣I think after I wear out the Dunlop TMM's I'll be switching to a more off-road tire like the MOTOz Adventure on the T700 Tenere. (Yes, I'm a name dropper) to take advantage of the bikes off road performance. I apricate the honest review. MOTOz or Nothing!!

I ran several sets of TKC80s on my F800GS. The front is decent, although prone to "cupping." The rear has mediocre traction, is pretty much worthless in mud and on hard pack with a loose surface (ie: many forest roads), it LOVES to step out without warning, and violently to one side. Did it to me on pavement once at 60mph and I walked away with a broken wrist. I don't use TKCs any more.

I moved to the less aggressive Heidenaus because TKCs weren't cheap and wore out really fast. The Heidies did reasonably well and lasted at least twice as long. I did not see the issues some people did with that tire. I put on my first set of MotoZ GPS tires (their least aggressive ADV and somewhat comparable to the Heidenau) and I hate them. The front does not seal on the rim (I've seen reports from others with this issue) and the tread design on the front causes you to get a bit of a wobble or uneasiness when leaned over at lower speeds. Like you know... in dirt? Or in town? Or on a freeway on ramp that's tight? or... Given I've put a good 5k on them if not 6, they're gonna LAST, that's for sure. The carcass is stiff, which is good and bad. Good cuz you probably need a .50 cal to puncture this tire 😉. Bad because you have no feel and the ride is harsher. Since it's so still, airing down had little benefit. That said, it sounds like the RallZ (their most aggressive ADV tire) is a better option, but probably also stiff. It does seem to get lots of praise. I'm not sure what I'll try next. I want something with ridability that inspires confidence, has feel and doesn't wear out in 4k miles.

Good Information for sure....yeah...I can put 3m on in a few months easy....but my xr enjoys the D606 on the rear...they are a beast to put on...but the Xr is a beast in it's self....so all good...Look forward to seeing your SM500 video....actually going to do part of it

I was set to order the Tractionator Adv because I had a similar experience witht he TKC on a previous bike. But a friend bought a new set of IRC GP110s and then he wrecked his bike before putting them on. So...free tires. Theyre decent but as soon as theyre worn out which will be about 2 mos riding for me I will be going to the Motoz for sure.

Great review, sounds like they would be ok if they lasted a bit longer. I got about twice that out of my 805's.
My Motoz Rallz has been awesome so far, pretty expensive but if it gets decent mileage I'll be happy.

GRUMP !!! - Great review and real world experience comparison. In my opinion, that tire wears down way too fast - The Motoz Tractionator Adventure is 10 times better all the way around. Just a great choice - And looks better too !!!

Great review Greg! The TKC80s did seem to perform well (probably due to you being such a great rider) when we rode the trails to the Palmetto ADV Rally. I have heard from others that they do not last long though. The MOTOZ will definitely be an upgrade for sure. It will be interesting to see how many miles you get out of the MOTOZ. I am betting they will last a long time. Great review!
Cheers!

Fair review. Accurate on value verse life. I used a TKC80 once and that's all.

Was it a stiff tire to change yourself? I had a heck of a time with my last rear tire change.

Having watched you ride this tire, it seems to performed well.

I watched guys with Motoz went down ins ane, rocks and mud where you and the TKC80 just powered through.

But that longevity takes this tire out if consideration for me. That's simply unacceptable and over time the cost would too much. - Frank

I am a pretty low mileage rider but was noticing the Death Wing rear tire on my DR650 is looking like it is about done. Motoz or nothing.

What would be your choice for best value vs performance tire? Just caught your Shinko 805 review which saved me from it as well as this one. I was hoping to get a cheaper tire because I cant find any deals on the Motox Adv. Where you getting your Motoz? Cyclegear has a deal where you get 50% off mounting and balance if you buy a tire there but they dont carry motoz so I was hoping to find an alternative. Don't seem like there are any rear options out there worth the money other then the Motoz ADV. I did go with your reccomendation fo the front with the Shinko 804. Just need a rear. I f you think its worth just getting the Motoz I will bite the bullet, but hoping for a comprable rear to fit the budget that will last and still perform. What is your second favorite rear? Thank you again. I am glad to find this channel.
