Cuphead, while a delightful jaunt into a much simpler era of game design, did have it's moments where I couldn't help but wince and shake my head. Which leads me to my last point, we need to have a talk about the Floating Palace Segment. You load in and the first person you're met with is what is undeniably a Patriarchal symbol of Anglo-Supremacist Monarchy. I was all for the fun and games of this delightful side scrolling adventure, harkening to the Super Mario's of yesteryear, but it's 2022. Do we really need to be assaulted with the reminder of how ubiquitous and far reaching White Anger is in this day and age? I, for one, found this to be quite distasteful and it utterly ruined my day. Overall, while I can get behind a casual platformer anytime, I cannot stand for the proliferation of Alt-Right smoke signaling. And I challenge the developers of Cuphead to explain themselves for this misstep because, until they have the courage to speak to me, I am lead to believe that this is a political dog whistle for the January 6 Terror Bombing.
