Try plugging your iphone into a Mac and letting it charge for a few minutes. Then try the 3 button combo. Just worked for me, and now my phones works again.

I did this so many times and it just stays on the apple logo screen every time. It will stay that way for hours and never change even when I force restart and do what you said
