HANDMAID's TALE Season 5 June's Return To Gilead

About Handmaid's Tale: The Handmaid's Tale is an American dystopian tragedy television series created by Bruce Miller, based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Canadian author Margaret Atwood. The series was ordered by the streaming service Hulu as a straight-to-series order of 10 episodes, for which production began in late 2016. The plot features a dystopia following a Second American Civil War wherein a totalitarian society subjects fertile women, called "Handmaids", to child-bearing slavery. The first three episodes of the series premiered on April 26, 2017; the subsequent seven episodes were released every Wednesday. In May 2017, the series was renewed for a second season; which premiered on April 25, 2018. In May 2018, Hulu renewed the series for a third season, which premiered on June 5, 2019. In July 2019, the series was renewed for a fourth season, which is scheduled to premiere in 2021. In September 2019, it was announced that Hulu and MGM were developing a sequel series, to be based on Atwood's 2019 novel The Testaments. The Handmaid's Tale's first season won eight Primetime Emmy Awards from 13 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. It is the first show produced by Hulu to win a major award as well as the first series on a streaming service to win an Emmy for Outstanding Series. It also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama. Elisabeth Moss was also awarded the Golden Globe for Best Actress. Season 4 of The Handmaid's Tale is premiering in 2021. Originally, the new season was scheduled to premiere in fall 2020, but production came to a halt in March because of the coronavirus pandemic. Six months later, in September, production resumed in Toronto.

This time around, viewers can expect 10 episodes instead of the usual 13, one of which will be directed by actress Elisabeth Moss (June Osborne). According to showrunner Bruce Miller, the decision “was 100% creative,” allowing the show to focus on a smaller part of the story instead of multiple story arcs. "Some storylines just seem to shake out as a 10-episode story, in my eyes,” he told IndieWire. “It gives us a little more freedom because you can rely more on one propulsive element." The teaser for season 4 shows the last time we saw June and hints at what's to come. "I can't rest. My daughter deserves better. We all deserve better. Change never comes easy," June says in it. "This war isn't going to win itself. We're just getting started." Season 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale will feature the show’s regulars — Elisabeth, Max Minghella (Commander Nick Blaine), Bradley Whitford (Commander Joseph Lawrence), Joseph Fiennes (Commander Fred Waterford), Yvonne Strahovski (Serena Joy Waterford), Alexis Bledel (Dr. Emily Malek Ph.D.), Samira Wiley (Moira), Ann Dowd (Aunt Lydia), O-T Fagbenle (Luke Bankole), Madeline Brewer (Janine), and Amanda Brugel (Rita). In addition, Sam Jaeger who portrayed American representative Mark Tuello throughout season 2 and 3 was added to the main cast for the latest installment. Viewers will also spot a new face from Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House. Actress Mckenna Grace will play Mrs. Keyes, described as “a sharply intelligent, teenaged wife of a much older Commander who rules her farm and household with confidence.” The new character will show duality with a “calm and pious” exterior but actually suffers “with turmoil” and “insanity” internally. Cast: Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Joseph Fiennes, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, Alexis Bledel, Madelaine Brewer, Samira Wiley, Amanda Brugel, Bradley Whitford, Nina Kiri, Sydney Sweeney

June is a different person than who she was when with Luke. Luke barely knows her anymore, I don’t think he wants to. He just wants her to go back to who she was. That’s why I like her with Nick, he knows who she is now, and loves her anyway.

To the ones saying she should go with Nick; in season 4 when June meets up with Nick to get info about Hannah, at the end when Nick watches June walk away, . He reaches into his pocket and grabs a ring, putting it on his finger. Meaning he is married to someone else, so that puts a twist into Nicks and June's relationship.

I think eventually she will take down Gilead, get her daughter back and be with Nick and Nicole.

I want a season 5 and 6 and! 7 and beyond!! .... I'll never tire of this absolutely amazing series, it's had me hooked from the very start! I'd love for June and Nick to be together in the end I think he can help her the most and he truly loves her. Her being in Canada now (season 4) after 7 years in Gilead and now back with Luke and Moira and everyone else it seems that she doesn't fit in there, her life has been changed. Her focus is just on getting Hannah back for her and Luke but separate reasons I think and of course revenge on Fred and Serena and why wouldn't she?! I would! Just waiting every week now to watch an episode from season 4 on channel 4 (in UK) is excruciating if I could I'd spend days just binge watching like I did for season 1, 2 and 3 ... I ❤️ it!!

I hope more with Nick unfolds. After seeing him out on his ring made me question who he is “married to” unless it’s for show to cover up and go along with some greater plan.

She deserves happiness: Hanna, Nick, their baby and the whole beautiful ending.

One thing I hope season 5 brings is the “war” between June and Serena (like you were talking about). I loved season 4, but one thing it was missing were the moments between Elisabeth and Yvonne (apart from the confrontation scene). Even when they just *looked* at each other during the testimony, you could feel their complex relationship. Their scenes together are always amazing and I’m really hoping season 5 brings them back!

Wait what if Gilead want to make a trade with Hannah for Serena, because she is carrying a Gilead child and they want the child and the mother

The Testaments brings in all the surprises, especially in regard to Aunt Lydia.

I just hope she doesn't end up with Nick, they barely know anything about each other, he was nothing more than a copping mechanism for her to survive Gilead and has all the charisma and charm of yesterday's bread.

I saw something in Season 4 that makes me wonder if Aunt Lydia is going to make Janine an Aunt Janine in Season 5. Which would be perfect as she would have more power to help June seek justice in Gilead. I'm torn between whether Luke or Nick is best for June in the long run now that she has a child from each of them. But in the spirit of the show and the passion and drama that would play out, I would hope it would be Nick.

I want to see awareness become a Handmaid and have her baby taken from her. Then have her start off like the rest of them did. Karma would be amazing.

I think she goes way underground with Mayday. I believe they start gearing up for the Testiments. You could already see Aunt Lydia's character headed in that direction. Now with Fred being killed it's likely this is when Nicole goes into hiding as well. I don't want to ruin any more...

Luke is a weak character. He just wants June to put the past behind her and move on with him. To much has happened for her to move on. However, being with Nick will only fuel her anger. He’s a constant reminder of some of her sorest days in Gilead.

No... Just no. Show in my opinion already really stretches reality from this brutal regime, then all of a sudden Nick can come and go as he pleases, to Canada, they forget the traitor in their midst...( Junes last commander)
Don't punish Janine who had her eye taken out just because she talked back to Aunt Lydia
But.. now she can escape and go on a wild rampage with June and just come back with no repercussions...
🙄
I still love series but I really thought they stretched the believability / the brutality of Gilead to " oh you're crossing over into Canada and going to see a handmaid)
Like they wouldn't know... The Gilead we know certainly would...
So in this context it would be believable that June would be able to go back to Gilead because it's not the same Gilead from season 1 and 2 that's for sure...

Wish June would just direct the scenes and we got to see her daughter's respective development of world views as they grow up to their roles in The Testiment Book setting. June can go off somewhere and be a resistance fighter behind the scenes. Want to see how the series writers resolve Serena's baby. (Better make sure the baby has a paternity test.). I loved the scenes when Serena and June were respecting each other and working to petition for literacy. I don't believe June's hating on Serena is the last word.
