The Singer Blind Stitch Attachment No. 86649 allows any low shank, straight stitch sewing machine to create an almost invisible hem

This neat and compact attachment replaces the presser foot and used the up and down motion of the needle bar to operate the mechanism.

The blind stitch attachment has a multitude of uses from hemming skirts and trousers to curtains and table cloths

Of all the videos I've seen on using singer attachments, this is the only one that recommends removing the (probably dull by now) cutter. BRAVO!! Every buttonholer attachment I see for sale has the terrible scratching's on the front, from the cutter banging into it. And showing the folding on paper, then the result on fabric? Genius. Also Kudos for no intro "on camera explanation of what we're about to see" If I ever made a sewing video, I wish it could be half as good as this.

And depending on the thickness of the fabric lowering the top tension can help too as too tight a tension can cause a bit of a "dimple" where it bites across the fabric (off the hem). That's more useful for heavier fabrics but if you're making curtains is really handy. Thanks for the lovely, very clear video and demonstration!

Thank you, I have this attachment, and never knew how to use it. I inherited my aunts featherweight and this attachment was included.

Hi @Curio By B-Spoke Designs Is the attachment model on the bottom of your attachment? Some were an 86649 and some were a 160616. They look virtually identical and as far as I can tell work the same. I'm trying to solve a mystery and you might have a big clue, my knight in shining armour to the rescue! I've heard the 86649 can use the ordinary attachment screw and that the 160616 needs the extra-long one. I've seen a manual Form 20539 (353) Rev for the 160616 and that has the long screw.

But I have been told the manual one person has that doesn't mention a long screw is Form NA2960 Rev 1150 *but* they say they've got model 160616. So I'm confused.

Can they both attach with the normal presser foot thumbscrew? Did Singer change them over time so early 160616s needed longer screws and later ones didn't, or vice versa? Or??? (Singer tends to write manual form numbers inside the front cover on the bottom left of the page.)

So I wondered what model number is on your attachments and what the number is for your manual please. It might help put me out of my mystery misery. :-) Thank you... Megan
