Thanks for this excellent basic review. Agree with everything on the gearbox issue, having been "stranded" momentarily on a roundabout and at a T-junction before learning how to better judge the lag or when to use the paddles. You're right, really needs fixing, even if it's at the expense of a bit of fuel economy or emissions. Talking of which, got back yesterday from a very comfortable round trip right across Switzerland and back (425km each way plus c.80km of small road and town "tootling") and *very* nearly made it on one tankfull. Economy overall bang on 6 litres per 100km, which I reckon is just over 47 mpg. Impressed. Everyday economy up and down my local hills (the Jura) in automatic mode I'm getting a little better than 8 litres/100km, still not bad for that amount of poke under the bonnet.

I'm glad you've addressed the gearbox review honestly. I think I'd have to go for an M340d Xdrive if the issue isn't mended.

Good review but quite a few errors..it’s 347 HP and not 336.Active air suspension is NOT available, even as an option.Adaptive suspension control IS standard on the Vorsprung. Apple Car Play Still requires a lead and is not yet wireless

Great review. I've just moved from a Cupra 290 to an S3 which should be practically identical, but the throttle lag in the DSG box on the S3 is extremely frustrating. I have the whole "stranded in the entrance to a roundabout" thing surprisingly regularly. I also find it shunts at times - especially in sport mode. My Cupra never did.

It’s not mentioned that this is a mild hybrid and the power boost from the battery is supposed to help eliminate the power lag but apparently not doing that in this review.

I have a new 50TDI Q7 and the performance is huge accept when pulling away, the lag is nothing short of dangerous! What’s the point having all these safety features when it seems quite happy leaving stuck in the middle of a roundabout or T junction before it gives you any power. The mild hybrid is supposed to stop this but I have never driven anything like it

I have one of these and I agree with what you say about the gearbox laggy delay. It's annoying when ever I put my foot down on the throttle it waits for a while and then goes. Grrr! Also still need a cable for Android Auto. Audi you should be better than this! Think perhaps should have gone for the BMW X drive...

This over an rs4 anyday. My 2020 50tdi q7 had a lot of wltp mapped in lag. I got the engine and gearbox remapped by mrc tuning, different car now.

Would a gearbox repmap solve the gearbox issue..??

Totally agree on Audi power delivery/gearbox issue. I have A6 50 TDi and even with supposed Audi download “fix” it is simply not acceptable and verging on dangerous. The earlier V6 bi turbo diesel was massively superior. I will not buy another Audi with this gremlin and my last 11 cars have been Audi.

Great honest review! Just got rid of my 2020’ RSQ3 and the throttle lag is damn annoying! Audi seriously need to sort it out. Thinking S4 Avant but sad to hear same issue so may rethink. Fantastic review tho!

So this new diesel gets pretty much the same mpg as my petrol powered S4? And diesel is significantly more expensive

The fake exhaust tips and other things I am afraid are the put off from all of the German brands.
