I was simply checking in on these shark eggs today when i noticed... they are READY TO HATCH!! I haven't been wanting to stress them out much, so i made sure i didn't shine the lights on them... Glad i did today!

Joey I have hatched these types of shark eggs in the past and as soon as you see their gills moving you need to get them out within 72 hours or the chances of them surviving post hatch go down drastically . Once they are using their gills they are capable of living outside the egg and are ready to hatch but can’t get out because like you said they blow around the ocean floor which helps break out of their eggs. To learn how to manually hatch them look up tutorials.

I work with coral catsharks in a public aquarium. They don't need to move to keep water flowing over the gills. If you artificially hatch them now, all will be ok. If you do chose to hatch them and it turns out they have a little bit of yoke sack left you can build a artificial egg from a smallish sized jam jar with a couple of holes in the lid. Then keep them in the jar until you can see the yoke is completely gone. Make sure if you do poke holes in the lid that there is no sharp bits on the inside.

My dad has kept sharks for years and I asked him, he told me to tell you that to open them up would be better as the risk of them not breaking out is higher since it is not in the wild and you would risk both dying

I have hatched a few sharks myself. If the yoke is still attached to the sharks than I would leave them in the breeder box you have them in until it is completely gone. I have hatched all my sharks myself, because of the same worries you have. If you can't see the yoke anymore through the case than definitely hatch them yourself. After birth I gave my sharks a day to adjust to life outside the case, then started feeding. I found that squid is the best food to start them on, I notice they take that over anything else once born. Good luck!

I'm a marine biologist. Do not open the egg case! This species does not have to move to breathe. The egg already has small slits allowing the tank water the flow through. They will push through when ready.

I am a marine biologist and my advice for u is too open them because I couldn't see there yolk sacks either and it would be to risky and dangerous to leave them so I think u should open them xxx

You have at least 2-3 weeks before they starve, let them hatch naturally, there is more than enough space for them to hatch. Benthic species do not need to move to breathe. Once they get hungry enough they will leave. The “flat” end is actually not connected, they will come out just fine.

All shark eggs have slit opening for water to flow through and provide oxygen. Widen the the slits to help the shark break out of the shell. If it is not able to get out after a day or two then the shell needs to be broken to let the shark out

With my experience, I’d say give it a couple days. Check every day. They can actually survive a while after hatching. Be extremely cautious when opening eggs early. Contact the seller if your worried.

Hey Joey, bamboo sharks don’t need to continuously swim like the more pelagic species do. So don’t worry about them being in there. The gill movement shows that they can manually move water over their gills to breathe. The only true concern would be if he egg sac not deteriorating enough on its own.

yes these need to be opened asap, to me the sharks look fully developed and they can sometimes struggle to break free from the shell, if they get stuck they can die

your sharks look about ready to be freed.. they're gills are pumping and there is no sign of the yolk sac. the shell is slowly degrading but if they stay in there to long they may become runts or suffer some sort of deformity. my uncle has raised and breed sharks and i helped from time to time. you should film it, its a pretty exciting and something that you could share with your viewers

Joey, from what I've seen and read (quick google and youtube research) if you open the eggs and they still have a little sack you can just let them be there for a while, they won't die, but if they are stuck they will for sure die. OPEN THEM! I don't want them to die! :(

that lion fish and eel are a funny duo

That's awesome!  They are already breathing through their gills.  Open it to prevent starvation as the yolk sacks appear to have been consumed.

if you're still seeing the slightest bit of yolk, wait a day, or two, or three. peel them open, leave them in that breeder net. Once the two show aggression toward each other after a feeding and a starving off...release them to the tank. Feed the lion and eel first, then all should be picture perfect;)

Seriously. Born at 6 inches, already half the mass and twice the predation skill of the lion, and two of them to boot...they will have no problem owning that tank right out the gate.

The eel may need to move or he'll die from starvation because they will keep him from feeding fairly early on.

The lion could last a fair bit longer due to his size. But in a few weeks, he'll need to go as well.

Or plant the sharks in a different tank. But you'll miss the photo op, so don't ;)

Just make certain you can easily net that eel before adding the sharks and you'll be golden!

If it were me I would carefully and gently open the egg with the little one that is breathing. I work at my lfs which is a massive saltwater and freshwater wharehouse and last year we had some shark eggs come in from a hobbiest that couldn't care for the eggs so I was put on egg duty for the last few weeks of their development (everyone helped but I was in charge of monitoring and logging) 2/4 eggs hatched on their own but the other 2 struggled. Both babies were breathing inside the egg still but they were running on 3 days without food so I finally opened them and they swam to the bottom of the tank took a few big breathes and than began swimming happily around. Both were still alive after a few weeks at 5in each and healthy so we felt safe selling them but no doubt they would have died without help!
