Making custom paintings in The Sims 4

Using Paint By Reference in The Sims 4! Can my sim decorate their house using only custom paintings?

Small tip, before you click paint by reference go on TAB mode and pick the angle you want, then press CTRL + 5 to lock that angle. Then click "Paint by reference" and by clicking "5" you instantly go to the angle you were previously :)

Paint by reference is a great feature in concept but then again it's so poorly implemented because of the camera limitations of the game and it's frustrating. That's why I can't be bothered to use it lol

I've been playing with the paint from reference feature for a long time. I always like having custom wall art. There's a mod called "Set Filters on Painting by Reference" created by Scumbumbo (now maintained by LittleMsSam). It gives you the ability to remove the crappy "painting" texture that EA implemented. Plus it also gives you the ability to use any of the photographic filters, if you want. A must have mod if you like playing around with paint from reference.

This reminds me of the only time I used it in game. I was playing a legacy and my main sims was a painter. Her heir was pregnant and about to get married so I put her into her wedding kimono (they lived in Mt Komorebi) and under a cherry blossom tree and had her mom paint her by reference. It was a beautiful painting, came out really well. And then the new sister in law stole it because she was a kleptomaniac and i never managed to get it back + the mom was already dead by that point. I abandonned the save because of it.

I literally just built a new home for my legacy sims yesterday using your gallery paintings hack and now I 100% know what I'm doing today. Time to make one of my sims a painter!! LOL

Satch: To make a platform without removing the exterior walls, use two interior walls to make the room shape (don't use the room tool), then use the arrows to lift the floor in the created room. Then you can just kill the interior walls and the exterior ones stay put.

Almost all of the paintings I have in my homes are painted from reference. You can see paintings of exterior or interior beauty shots of other houses, portraits of characters, the occasional candid large-scale photo, very lifey though the emotions can be pretty unpredictable, if they have any at all.

Photos of flower arrangements can be nice to have set up on tables in small print versions, they feel very stock photo-esque, but in a sort of quaint garden-housey kind of way, something a lot of people might not vibe with but is very nostalgic to people like myself who grew up in households that had random plants and even more random photos of plants.

I paint ALL my family's from pregnancy to them being elders, put them up around my houses. I love the Paint by reference.

Use a light to change the color and do the same painting in different color light, I did that waaaay back in the day, and it turned out pretty darn good

I have been using this feature to paint my own landscapes and models (so fun for nude artwork if you got WW). is one of my favorite features of The Sims 4 game
