To save people time with this video since it's just 90% filler talk, she says the highest ways to earn income are:
1.Online courses/webinars/coaching
2.Make a youtube channel

She then talks about youtube vlog ideas to make as an artist. You're welcome

I've read the comments about artist's & business. I have rarely met an artist who likes to paint commissions. I do. But, I have a 5 page contract, spells it out. There is a succession of steps that need to be completed, signed off by the customer with payments when they are happy. I show them sketches, photos, discuss colors, materials, delivery dates. And, I deliver on time. While I am painting, I have a clear goal and I know this painting is sold. The customer loves it. What can be better? And when I explain this method to a fellow artist, they cross their arms. Why? Because accountability goes both ways when there is a contract.

I've sold just over 100 original paintings nationwide..and one internationally.
(Small ones, but still..i find that a success in itself🤗)

Artists are usually pretty reluctant to embrace business. It requires a different mindset. However, many artists want the freedom that making money provides, so you either embrace the mindset or continue to struggle. I think this is an excellent video. Much to consider. Great ideas. Thank you very much.

"if the money doesn't matter the art will be better" God wanted me to hear this!

I am only starting selling my art recently but I started feeling all the pitfalls you discussed in the video. I searched for a video like this and almost cried listening to you affirming everything I have been feeling. It's not unfair for artists to expect financial freedom. Thanks so much for the tips ❤️

OMG, "I grew up in a town with a high school where kids rode tractors to school." I literally spit out my drink. I feel you though, we didn't ride tractors, but most kids who were able to drive came in pick-ups with stuff like scrap metal and huge bags of feed in the back! Love it. You inspire.

All good points. Sounds like some of the best ways to make money creating art, is to educate others doing YouTube content or creating online courses. Doing 1 on 1 client custom paintings can add some extra revenue, but this can be inconsistent. Etsy might be a good way to sell artwork as prints or digital downloads, or original custom work, but again only volume sales work to make it a full time income. I think an artist these days needs multiple revenue streams, including perhaps gallery showings for original art, or a deal with a local gallery to split the sale prices. However, a successful YouTube channel and selling online courses might be all a person needs for a full-time income teaching art, along with affiliate income recommending art supplies on Amazon linked to the channel. Once a channel is monetized, Amazon will pay 4% for linked sales from a channel.

Great video! I totally agree. I got tired of taking on commissions. It was too stressful. Having multiple streams of income is so important. Thanks for sharing!

Dear Kayla, in my 67 years of age I hadn't heard, not seen a video so useful for artists before! There's still some gravity in people that don't let go their old ideas to open to new ones. I liked your video very much. I think there's so much to learn from your ideas and I'll be following you. Thank you! Gracias! Greetings from Mexico City!

Lovely video, very helpful. I love your sense of humor! I consider myself an artist, though, I haven't drawn in a while. When I was younger, drawing (usually in ink) was my absolute obsession! I went through stacks of paper, weekly. I sold handmade greeting cards, and did custom art & poetry for people. As a child, I also did other craft work, like sewing & jewelry repair. Sometimes, I got paid like, $300 in a single weekend, which, for a kid, made me feel like I was rolling in moolah!! My money disappeared quickly, though as my family was often strapped for cash. As an adult, I make jewelry for sale in my Etsy Shop. I love making jewelry, but hate the business side of things. It's just not in my wheel house at all. So, for me, the shine has worn off of selling jewelry. My latest obsession is writing, especially songwriting, which I've been doing since 2010. And THAT is where I found inspiration in your video. Weird, right?! I think it's applicable, though. I could do songwriting classes, videos, etc. I don't have a great voice or play an instrument, and even for those who do, many musical/vocal artists don't make tons of money. Additional income streams are always welcome! I'm no songwriting expert, surely, but, if sharing my story and lyrical journey with someone else would help them... AND help me pay the bills, I don't really see a downside.

3 minutes 33 seconds I'll never get back! 🤣 yes I know it's longer than that but too much talk... and how about we share more positive energy! Artists don't need to hear what they've always heard (you're not going to get rich painting, you're not going to make money doing that, artists can't make a living making art...etc).
Because...guess what...
YES you can!

YES. YOU can!!

YESSS...YOU ACTUALLY CAN!!!

Take your power back peeps! This is an incredible time to be alive! What you make and what you CREATE, NEEDS TO BE SHARED!!! The right people will come and the money will flow...just Believe that, Believe in your SELF and it will be done!

I believe in YOU! 🙏🏻

Now GO, make some good stuff!!! 😘 🎉🤗

It’s my first time watching your channel. I have been having trouble this couple months, on trying to learn how to sale my art. And just todaye as I was waking up inn the morning to go to work .i told my self i really have to figure this out because there no other option. I don’t want to be stuck as nurse the rest of my life. I don’t want ppl telling me what time to take my lunch. I want to be my own boss. Have time to enjoy life. Not being stock at a hospital.

I just want to say thank for taking your time. For the ideas and information. You actually bust up my confidence that I was lacking.
Once again thank you.
